YES! Victory is mine!! I chew in the front, when I have my spacers in! Wohoo! But, dang it! When I have my braces in, its going to be harder.. :( Anyone allowed to have gum when they had their braces in? I'm a terrible gum chewer. lol And can't live with out it! Its one of my other addictions. lol (not all the time though!) Just after I eat. Anyone? Anyone? lol, thank you for reading!

When I had mine they preferred I didn't chew gum but they said it would be OK as long as it is sugar free gum.... I guess the sugar free kinds don't tend to stick as much.

Gum with braces is a cinch. I chewed gum, apples, caramel, all of it. The concern with sticky foods is that it'll pull off brackets, but no way does gum have the sticky power to do that, as long as nothing is loose to begin with.

They'll just put bands on your back molars, and there will be a protrusion where the wire slides into the band on the outside of each back molar, but if you chew on the inside of your back molars, you're fine. Chewing in front works too, you aren't going to snag the brackets because once you get them on, you'll be so used to them that your mouth will be totally adaptive.

Enjoy braces! I loved mine. Worst day of my life was when they came off. It is so much weirder to have straight, slick, slimy teeth after you're all done than it is to put on those sweet colourful brackets... Plus - Christmas colours in December!

i found sugary gum to tend to get tangled in my braces, but sugar-free was no problemo.

i also ate whole apples, toffee, caramel, etc. basically, everything you weren't supposed to do, i did. and my dentist called my his star patient. hahaha.

the only thing that ever really got me in trouble with the braces was that i chewed ice a LOT. and the cold/warm/cold/warm extremes that i put my molars through was enough to break down the cement holding the molar bands on, and they would get loose and have to be re-cemented.

def do NOT chew gum with sugar...you shouldnt be anyways, it is super bad for your teeth!!!

I think A LOT depends on the way you eat in general...cause there were always those people who got all this food stuck in their braces, and it was soo gross. I never had that issue...

Some people just like swish food around in their mouth, and make it go up in between your lip and the face of your teeth, as opposed to keeping it kinda in the middle of your mouth, so it is almost always within the inside of your teeth...if that makes sense.

if you are a chewer who pushes food all around everywhere, then gum is an issue...otherwise, you should be fine!

I wouldn't chew ANY kinda of gum with spacers in. It's more likely they will come out, then you have to make an appt. with the ortho then have more pain and just over all crap. ;) JIMO.

But, I chewed gum for about 6-7 months before I got my spacers put in, with just braces on. Of course it was always sugar-free...but I've never had a problem.
