I have been researching this breed for quite some time, and was just wondering if anyone personally had one? Or knew someone that did? I would love to hear your personal experiences with this breed. They seems to be very uncommon, I haven't come across many breeders or rescues..

Somebody I know on another forum has two rescue Xolos. One is rather shy. All I really know about the breed is that, obviously, they are rather sensitive to temperatures, need sunscreen and, being hairless, have a higher incident of having missing or no teeth.

I've never even seen one, actually.

From what I've heard, they can be quite sensitive, but also very tenacious. I don't think they're an easy breed for a novice dog owner....they can be kind of drivey and protective, bond closely with the family, and are pretty high energy especially as puppies. I think they're also VERY smart. A smart dog does not mean an easy dog. Smart dogs figure out how to get into trouble very quickly.

They sound a lot like JRTs, temperment-wise, but less inclined to make friends with strangers.

Ana Poe of Paco Collars has a Xolo, she'd be a good resource. She hasn't popped in here for a while, but she's easy enough to find on the web.

They've got some health issues due to being hairless, but otherwise, they're fairly terrier-ish in personality from what I hear.

It's a shame since I'm on the east coast. Thank you everyone for your information. I am now thinking maybe a Chinese Crested would better fit my lifestyle...

I have met some of them at the mexican city zoo, coated and hairless. :D

At least the dogs there are very calmed and not hyper, nervious, shy or barky at all.

The coated ones seemed more aloof than the hairless.

But you have to take in account this dogs see a lot of people daily, when I'm there there can be more like 1,000 kids (from school tours)

All I have to add is that I want one of the large ones, I love that they aren't like most of the other hairless breeds with only one tiny size.

My landlord in AZ had one of the large ones. She was a really cool dog but had to be slathered in sunscreen to go outside in the summer.

They are the best dog anyone could ever own. They don't bark, and are super eay to train. I got a toy from a breeder last month and couldn't be more happy. Everything they have said here about xolo's is incorrect. They are loyal, medium energy, more like a lap dog than wanting to go out. They rarely have any health problems and they love to go with you everywhere. every dog owner i have met are envious of my cut easy barkless dog. Of course I am her pack leader she doesn't walk me I walk her if you get my drift.
