MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A World Wrestling Entertainment star was found dead in his hotel room Sunday in Minneapolis, where he was scheduled to appear that evening in a WWE show.

Eduardo Gory Guerrero, 38, didn't respond to a wake-up call Sunday morning, authorities said. His nephew, fellow WWE wrestler Chavo Guerrero, and hotel security at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center forced their way into the room and found him.
There were no apparent signs of foul play, police said. An autopsy was planned to determine how Guerrero died.

His nephew said Guerrero was open about past drug and alcohol abuse but had been sober for four years. Guerrero was married and had three children.

"This is a huge loss," said WWE chairman Vince McMahon. "Eddie was a wonderful, fun-loving human being. Eddie was a consummate performer."

Guerrero was a featured star on the series WWE Smackdown! He was the son of Mexican wrestler Gory Guerrero.

Last year, he became the second wrestler of Hispanic heritage to be WWE champion, though he lost the title four months later.

A special aired last year on his life called Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story. The program chronicled Guerrero's childhood and his struggle with drug addiction that almost cost him his job, family and life.
38 years old, such a young age to lose such a great preformer. RIP Eddie you will be greatly missed by all your fans.

The media will blame it on steroids, even if it wasn't the cause.

I know on Raw last night they had a tribute show and mixed up Raw and Smackdown wrestlers. It is not hard to tell he was loved by his wrestling family and by his fans.

He was a drug and alcoholic until 4 years ago since then he has been clean. I suspect it was a heart attack or something like that maybe from the damage done years ago. Time will tell after the autopsy is done.

He has been clean for 4 years now so who knows but I will wait for the autophsy before passing judgement. He was a heck of a wrestler though and obviously was loved by all.

It was heart failure. As an avid MMA fan, I ran into this news a while ago... and it really saddened me. Guerrerro, when I was a wrestling fan, was definitely one of my faves.

May he rest in peace.

I don't normally watch Wrestling anymore but I was raised on it as a kid :) As I flipped channels last night I saw his tribute show and watched a bit of it. Very sad indeed that he died.
When my husband came downstairs this morning, I told him that Eddie had died and how he was found. His first comment was that it was from former drug and steroid abuse....

It is so sad that when someone dies the first thing people think of is that he was a drug and alcoholic. He was clean for four years and if he slipped up, I still thing he was a heck of a wrestler and he sure tried to do right by his family by cleaning up.

I heard it Sunday... when not many details were found. No real link I talked about it with other MMA fans and they told me about it.

Apparently, he was found dead in his hotel with his toothbrush in his hand and everything.

People WILL say steroids but the Guerrerro family really isn't one to do such a thing-- he may have a while ago and it came back to haunt him. But from what I read it was some sort of heart failure-- maybe cardiac arrest.

Chris Benoit and Ray Mysterio, they both had hugh crying sessions which caused me to join right in with the wet eyes. They were his best friends and of course his nephew who stated that even though they were uncle/nephew, he felt more like brothers. He is the one who found him and they sure were close. Even Hunter teared up pretty good [Triple H].

Oh so it is just fans talking because they are preforming the autophsy today. I thought maybe you had heard something about the autophsy. Sorry!

Yep. We'll see... although I'm not a big WWE fan anymore, it really kinda hits a spot for me.

A few additional details which I have not confirmed at this point. At least one source is reporting that Eddie was found with his toothbrush still in his mouth and there is speculation that it was some form of heart failure.

Note it says not confirmed at this point.

I got this off the official wwe raw website

Vickie Guerrero speaks on Eddie's autopsy report
Nov. 15, 2005

After the untimely passing of Eddie Guerrero, WWE and the entire sports-entertainment community is still reeling from the devastating loss of a champion. The initial autopsy reports on Guerrero have come in. WWE.com spoke with Eddie’s widow, Vickie Guerrero, earlier today.

“It was heart failure. It was from his past – the drinking and the drug abuse. They found signs of heart disease. She (the examiner) said that the blood vessels were very worn and narrow, and that just showed all the abuse from the scheduling of work and his past. And Eddie just worked out like crazy all the time. It made his heart grow bigger and work harder and the vessels were getting smaller, and that’s what caused the heart failure. He went into a deep sleep.

As soon as they saw his heart, they saw the lining of his heart already had the heart disease. There was no trauma, and Eddie hadn’t hurt himself in any way. It answered a lot of questions. I knew Eddie wasn’t feeling very good for the last week. He was home and kept saying he wasn’t feeling good and we thought it was just “road tired.” So we thought he just had to rest. It answered a lot of my questions, too, because he was just so exhausted. She said it was normal because the heart was working so hard.

I met Eddie at at the funeral of a mutual friend here in Morristown. He'd driven 10 hours straight after a show to get to the funeral, and had another show to do the following evening another 500 miles away. He struck me as a genuine and loyal human being - as many of these guys are. It really gives you a different perspective on so many of these guys when you see them come together and hear them speak from the heart. There were several of the WWE headliners who came to the funeral and spoke of their long friendship and reminisced about the hard times and the funny times and how often the two were the same. But I remember Eddie's face. He came in red-eyed and exhausted and sat down - more like collapsed - in the pew and I could see the memories crowding through his mind . . . For someone like Eddie, the brotherhood of the ring can be as strong a tie as blood and family.
