I have a little Poo-pom and she was given to me from a family friend who was moving and couldn't have her anymore. I had already watched her many times and fell in love with her so I was more than happy to take her and I've now had her for 4 years. She was bought at a pet store (I'm guessing puppy mill litter) and her papers say she's a Pomeranian-poodle mix, but I've never seen another dog that looked like her, any of the other poopom mix dogs I find look like either (usually more pom-looking). She's got the pom face, but nothing poodle-y (except she loves swimming) and maybe the pom size, but her hair is wavy like a golden retriever. I just saw a photo of a Tiberian spaniel the other day and I was amazed as my dog looks very similar to this spaniel!!!
here's a couple pics of my dog Mittan: (not sure if this will work!)
Flickr: HappyDoggieBlog's Photostream

Mittan is the last dog on my flickr (2 pics of her 'sleepy pup' and 'lazing on grass') they aren't great pics as they're side profiles etc, but I may add a new one of her on there. Sorry, I don't have any other way of adding photos as flickr is the only one I use and I'm fairly newish here ;)

My question is: does anyone think she look like a Pomeranian or poodle? Is it possible the pet store/breeder/puppy mill could be wrong about the breed mix? This may be a silly question, but I wondered if there could be a mix up, especially if either parent aren't purebred..

Thanks! :)

You didnt buy her so I am just going to be blunt & honest!

She is likely, as you pointed out, from a puppymill... the parents may very well be mixed, the people who mated the two dogs may not even know which dogs mixed.

It is VERY likely that she is not what they say... puppymills either dont care or will lie to make a cuter name.

In any event, enjoy her! It was nice of you to take her in so she could go to someone who she knew. :)

Doesn't look like poodle/pom mix to me either
I could see Spaniel or maybe even Pekingese mix

And I agree with PM. A puppymill or petstore that buys from a puppymill probably does not care or know what they label a dog as. I mean, I see rabbits in the petstore labeled certain breeds all the time and the majority of the time they are wrong

great thanks guys! Yes, I was wondering about the puppy mills and how they operate, seems a bit sketchy in many ways, let alone keeping track of who breeds with who LOL
I wasn't sure how 'definite' the papers are when they say the dog's breed (particularly from a pet store), but again I'm sure you never really know with a puppy mill.
I think spaniel a little with her floppy ears too, and yes maybe a little Pekingese...though I looked at a few Pekingese and didn't see too much similarity besides the small size and maybe a little in the face.

But yes I love her to bits, so of course it doesn't matter :D. I was just wondering when I saw the Tibetan spaniel and thought..wow, maybe the papers ARE wrong haha

Thanks for your feedback!

I looked at your pictures. I doubt she is a Poo-pom, or whatever. But I will say that she is really cute. And i am so happy to look at her pictures knowing she has a lovely home.

Really you could tell people she is whatever you want her to be. Or just say she is your Muffan, a one of a kind dog.

Doesn't look like a pom or a poodle mix to me at all. She looks like a toy spaniel mix... maybe a cavalier or an english toy with peke? She does look kind of like a tibetan spaniel but pekingese are a lot more common.

I have the same problem!!!!

Princess Mama looks like a king charles spaniel x peke and I've even seen resemblence in a tibetan spaniel as well!! She was also given to me and her previous owner got her from a pet store. But wow they look alike too, but different colors!! The coat, the ears, the tail, the face, the teeth always sticking out the mouth, all the same!!

Her papers said she's a shih tzu x poodle. I see no poodle in her what so ever! She could be shih tzu, but everyone always sees her and thinks she's a peke. I tell people she's supposely a shih-poo [the name they give a shih tzu x poodle], but I think she's a peke x spaniel cross. I've seen shih poo's online, and none quite look liek her, but then I see one or two and they SORTA look like her, but you never know what you're going to get with these breeds when you cross them. But I still see NO POODLE. Plus her coloring and coat is very spaniel like, and her face is very peke like.

BTW VERY CUTE DOG WHATEVER SHE IS!

Here's my Princess Mama

My same thoughts, but tibetan spaniels are quite rare and I never seen one in a pet store setting. Does she shed a lot? Princess does and thats a peke trait.

Oh good, I'm glad that it's not just me or my dog's a freak poo-pom lol. I thought maybe there was another breed lurking in there.

Juicy, I really see shih tzu in Princes Mama but not poodle at all either! Actually she does look very much like a King Charles Spaniel. People ask me at the park ALL the time if Mittan is a King Charles Spaniel and they are surprised she's not. I think she looks a little more like a Tibetan but I can see how people think she's a King Charles too. It's strange then the papers say a mix and you can see a little, but I think we'd see at least SOME poodle in our dogs if they really were lol At least maybe some curly hair haha Anyway good I'm not alone here, and actually Princess Mama looks a little like Mittan, at least her face..in one photo particularly (top right) just a different colour. She's very cute too!

thanks Pam & Drmom, she's a cutie and also a very adorable dog and I can't imagine what life would have been like without her. Very feisty though, and around the big dogs she think she's more rottie! :D ah, the small dog phenomenon

Laurelin, I hear sometimes she looks like a cavelier too...it's possible she has a bit of that too, maybe mix with pom..

Yep she's my little Mittan, regardless of her origins! :))) thanks again everyone for your input.

Oh I didn't realize Tibetan spaniels are quite rare...I guess more so in pet stores then likely..
No, she doesn't shed much at all (also unlike pomeranians) actually...so many not much peke then either..?

Well she's a mix, so you have 50/50 with everything!

The rest of your crew is adorable too!

You need to post more pictures, to cut & paste from flickr on your photo page, just right click on the pic and click on properties and copy the url!

For different sizes, click on the picture page, click on all sizes above the pic, choose the size you want, and do the same right click on the pic, pick properties and copy the url.

Thanks Juicy, I don't know why I had so much trouble before. I used the signature part and tried both uploading and copying the link location. I finally hit the image button instead (as I did last time I was on here but with no luck) and it worked this time,,.hurray! I had read about how to copy pics from flickr so I knew what to do but for some reason it was just wasn't cooperating. But since you were able to copy my pic I knew I didn't have something right! haha

Thanks for your help!!! much appreciated :)

It's also important to note that pet bred pekes can look rather tibbie like anyways.
Second to that! A "pet store Peke" vs a Peke bred to the standard can be a very different animal, except that they bear some resemblance to the breed in question.

I think your cutie looks like a Peke x Pom - we had a "breeder" at one of the clinics I worked at that had several litters of them every year and they look just like that.
