I was driving down the road and I saw my next-door neighbor (the husband of the family) standing right inside his open garage and I saw him smack his dog in the back and smack him in the face 3 times while yelling at him. The poor dog was cowering and had all the hair on his back standing up. I don't know what the poor dog did to get such a repremanding, he's a well behaved dog. Poor thing. :( The dog is some sort of black lab mix (maybe with pointer).

My opinion of my neighbor just went way down. His young sons (elementary school age) are probably learning that its ok to hit dogs

(and before its suggested, AC wouldn't do anything because the dog is well cared for otherwise, and he's not hit hard enough to leave marks apparently, since I've lived next to this neighbor for over a year and never knew he hits his dog until today)

Sadly smacking a dog is often done in the name of "training". :( Poor pooch...

omg.... This exactly the same insist that happened few year ago. I was walking Lacey *bad girl I was in alley with my older brother walking* so anyways we over heard this bark from this yellow lab. Then this man stormy out of the back door then I see this lab sneaking into the hole in the garage to get away. And we both heard this whimp and screaming from this man smacking this lab :(

I hurried up around the corner to memorize the house number to run home to phone the animal protective league

I saw that a few days ago. A neighbor was walking his dog and trying to get him to heel. I had just gotten out of my vehicle with my dog and was waiting for him to pass so I could comment on how beautiful his dog was...The next thing I saw was him yelling at the dog to heel then he kicked him in the hind leg, hard enough to make him yelp :yikes: When he noticed me standing there he chuckled nervously, and mentioned something about some dogs just not getting it. When I retorted, some humans just don't get it.

I don't get how people can say they love their dogs but have no problems hitting and kicking them... :(

rofl that is Mr. Dog Whisperer Cesar Millan idea. So I'm sure that was one of his fans. Sadly no one has yet to report his abuse

aggressiveness in dog behavior has many causes, medical or otherwise.

aggressiveness in humans toward dogs can also be triggered by many causes, medical or otherwise.

i have a suspicion a man who hits his own dog hard gets beaten by his own wife regularly - physically, psychologically, or emotionally - and can't do anything about it. simply put: he's a loser in the house. :p

unfortunately, he gets back - not at his wife - but at his poor dog.

people who hit dogs must be leashed or caged!

I completely agree with Razorblade.

It's sad, because his kids probably DO think hitting dogs is ok... but, it's also sad, because the kind of person who would repeatedly hit a cowering dog is probably hitting his KIDS, too.

If I ever saw a neighbor hitting their dog, I would call AC immediately. I don't care if they didn't care. I would keep reporting it.

How sad.

I think our dogs are all a bit desensetized to it. Now, you'd have to really lay into them to make them relise it was a punishment as most opf our games include slapping them all over their sides or in Sophies face, quickly against her face. She makes the cutest expression.

I was doing an experiment with them last night, I picked up a rolled up newspare and just started speaking really gruffley and smacking him with it. lol he has no idea about it being anything bad. His favourite games are ones that are very physically demanding and we usually come off much worse than him lol

When I was volunteering at petsmart, I saw this lady with this adorable dudly lab pup with a prong collar around his neck. The lady seemed really frustrated and kept yanking the pup (hard!) ever time the pup pulls away from her. I felt sorry for it, this lady obliviously didn't have the patience for a pup and most likely that dog will end up in a shelter environment.

When I didn't know any better and how I was raised I use to spank my dogs on their bottoms when for exmaple if they ran out to the street when the door open. Now I know better, but I must admit it slips out every now and then and I feel terrible afterwards when I've noticed that I did. Some people don't know any better, doesn't make them monsters or abusive towards people. I try not to spank my little cousin, but again being brought up in a family that does spank, it happens sometimes.
