So today I bring Chessie my cat in for his vaccines and a pre surgical exam since he needs to be neutered. When I get there they tell me that if I want they could neuter him today. So I decide to do so. Well since I fed him they told me they would have to do him last. The nurse tells me he should be done between 5:30-6 but they would call me.

Now I'm new to this vet but like all the other vets I've been to I take their word that they are going to call me. Normally I'm a huge worry wort and two seconds after the clock strikes 5:30 I would have been calling them asking if he was done. But I don't I'm trying to not be a pain since normally when I call at other offices I get this, "No so and so is not done yet don't worry we will call you when so and so is." with a bit of attitude thrown in. Well 6 goes by and I decide to check their hours and I notice they close at 6. Ah I'll give it until 6:30 maybe they're running behind since they told me they were short staffed and they need to monitor him a little after he's done anyway. Well at 6:30 I call and I of course get the answering machine and then I start getting worried.

Finally at 7pm they call my house phone when they were only suppose to call that number if an emergency popped up since they had my cell number as the main number to tell me I was suppose to pick him up at 5:30. Tell them that I was told I would get a call, explain how all the other vets I've been to operate and they tell me they were never told to call me. But they ever so politely tell me I can pick him up tomorrow since now they are leaving. Ummm... hello? Why do you sit around for another hour after closing time and call me as you are leaving??? And I work tomorrow and have to hope I get out before six. And my poor cat has to spend the night there with a bunch of barking dogs.

I feel stupid.

Don't feel stupid, I think it's the vet's issue on this one. I'm a vet tech and we also always call owners when the patient is ready to be picked up. Plus we will call a second time if it gets within an hour of when we close and they haven't gotten their pet yet. That call comes with a reminder of when we close.

It makes no sense to me that they wouldn't have called you earlier with at least a reminder to come pick up if it was getting close to closing and you weren't their yet. It's more work for them to have an overnight patient (gotta get a litterbox together, a cage to clean in the morning, etc...) so why not try harder to avoid that? I'd also make sure they don't charge you an overnight fee.

Sounds as if somebody at the vet's office dropped the ball. She was probably supposed to call, but things got crazy for a while--you know how it goes--and it just didn't get done.

How is Chessie this morning? Hope everything is fine and he will forgive you in the foreseeable future. Possibly as soon as this weekend!

My BF went and picked him up on Wednesday. When they brought him out in his carrier they had his collar in the other hand and told my BF that he was "angry" and he would not allow them to touch him which is why they couldn't put the collar back on him. He was a complete sweetheart that night. I think he was just glad that we came back, lol.

And no overnight fee was charge I made sure of that before I got off the phone with them. :D

Thanks guys! :)
