Would you clone your dog?

My post in the rescue history thread got me thinking. Putting aside practicalities regarding how it would be done (;)), would you clone your dog(s)? Or would you prefer to get a different, perhaps complementary, dog?

I would totally clone mine. He's not perfect, but he's perfect to me and I adore him. (I actually get quite anxious at the thought of not having him forever, and he's not yet two.) And two Baileys would be hilarious (and crazy!).

I wouldn't clone any of my dogs. It would be awful for me to have a dog that looks like Summer but I would know it wasn't her. Also, I would miss out on other dogs and new personalities. I have thought all my dogs were pretty swell even if they're all different.

Something about cloning pets really bothers me for some reason. It sucks that dogs don't live that long, but I wouldn't want a replica of my dog when they were gone.

No. That would be to weird for me. Reminds me of the episode of the Marriage Ref where the husband had his dead dog stuffed and made a shrine in the house for it. Freaked the wife out!

Nope! Even if I had the most amazingest dog on the planet, I wouldn't (I don't think lol). Now having offspring that was "just like his/her daddy/mom" I would definitely want, but for some reason... a *clone*... no.

No. It would hurt to have a dog that LOOKS like romeo, but it wouldn't be him. It wouldn't act like him or anything.

and with all the $ it takes to clone him, I would much rather take that and find a totally different dog, still a chi probably.

I would get another chi. not even a tri colored one or even a boy... It would be unfair to get another dog and try to make it into a ROMEO 2.0, thats not fair to the dog or to me

I agree. I often am sad Summer couldn't have puppies. Summer puppies would be really amazing.

I was trying more to get at whether people like to have different personalities and kinds of dogs, or want to stick with what they have. I meant, would you literally want the same dog, not like a Dolly clone. For example, in Laur's case, her dogs are very different, but she obviously adores them both (and cloning Summer might mean no room for a Mia!).

Does that make sense?

I almost think it would be worse. Because cloning doesn't mean it will be Mary or Bronki or Victor. And if I did clone say Bronki, I would never have known Victor. I think your sent the dog that needs you most and its up to you to recognize it and glorify in it. There are too many that die each day and Victor woudl have been one of them for me to do look elsewhere. Especially into cloning.

Unfortunately while the dog would look exactly the same, there are so many environmental factors and experiences that go into making the dog what it is, that it WOULDN'T act/behave/be just like your other dog.

That being said, I will probably scour rescues to years once Daisy goes, to find another small, muscular, svelte basset. I have oft considered cloning, if only to keep the physical attributes that I love about her.

Never. Through Shelby`s passing I was able to bond with Bandit. He`s so different but is amazing in his own way. When the time comes for him to go I will be able to move on to the next phase and next dog. Maybe not easily, but there will be another when the time comes that touches my heart in it`s own way. If I cloned Bandit I wouldn`t have that.

Bailey's saying... IF the dog were the exact same in every aspect, would you want that.

My answer is still no lol.

I'd get a different dog. I wouldn't want a pack of dogs all the same, even if they were all great. Now, 89% the same, yes, but there needs to be SOME variation.

No as the clone starts out with a half life, life expectancy. Cloning your adult dog, especially once you know it's getting on in its senior years doesn't give you much time with the cloned dog, so for all the expense what is the point?

lol yeah..i think y'all are thinking WAAY too much about the question, haha.

I wouldn't clone Oakley either though. As much as I love him...he is far from a good dog. I would never voluntarily get another dog with his personality issues, lol. I'd actually rather have him cloned based on looks...cause if he weren't so darn cute, I don't think he woulda made it this long (jk jk...maybe...)

Nope. I feel like even if I had done everything right with him when he was a puppy he would still have some of the issues he has today (though obviously some of them were completely a result of my raising him), and I don't think that would be fair to his clone.

No, what I love about my bella is how unique she is. Besides, two bella's would be a whole lot of money spent on tennis balls that are destroyed way too quickly.

Yes my answer is still no too. I love all my dogs but I love them all for their differences. I cannot imagine a pack of Mias. :yikes:

This is exactly how I look at it too:
