I hate to hear that pups have worms !! Obviously the Mom wasn't checked before breeding, nor the pups at about 4 weeks. I can truthfully say that none of my pups needed worming , except from tapeworms as adults from fleas,,,, before the flea control of today came out.
Agreed! When we took Daisy for her 1st vet visit we had them do a fecal, and she was clean of any kind of worm. Gunnar never needed to be wormed either. And if the dog doesn't have them, I'm not going to give them a treatment just to be "safe".

kellybug,
You can use pyrantel pamoate starting at about 2 or 3 weeks old. When you go to your vet visit, just tell them you dewormed her with pyrantel pamoate, they will probably advise another dose at 2-3 weeks after the first dose.

Just look for pyrantel pamoate as the active ingredient, and then follow instructions on the box... you will have to weigh your pup too.

They will probably do a fecal to check for any other worms too, at your vet visit.

Even if a mother checks out worm free before breeding.... There are dormant larvae in the tissues of most adult dogs and these can be activated during pregnancy and then migrate to the fetuses in the uterus and become active infections.
This is still no excuse for a 5 week old pup to have worms..this pup should have been treated by the "breeder". Why did you get a pup at 4 weeks old? That is really too young to be away from her mother. :(

It is really important to rid your pup of these worms soon!

Thanks for your help. :) I just got some of the medicine and she'll be getting it in a few minutes when it's time for her to eat.

When we got her, the people who gave her to us, I won't call them breeders cause they're not, told us she was 7 weeks old and had been wormed. When I called them right before making my first post here to ask why she was passing worms if they had wormed her, they told me that they had wormed her 2 weeks before we got her and that she was actually only 4 weeks old when we took her.
