I need advice. When Timber first came home he would cry and bark in his crate. A couple of days and he would settle down quite nice only making noise when he needed to go poo or pee. But for the past 2 days it seems like he has regressed, barking and crying ALL night. He has 3 bones to chew on and a kong in there with him. What else could I do?

Where is the crate located?

Does he get access to the bones/kong during the day or only at night?

How old is he?

How long have you had him?

Tucker was already awesome at night in the crate which I think is because he was in one for three days on his trip from TN so he learned screaming doesn't work. Really was a godsend.

A few other suggestions though. See if being by your bed works, mom said Tucker cried occassionally the first night but if she put her hand down so he could sniff her he was fine.
Tucker also gets a bully stick in the crate, and ONLY in the crate. For some dogs this might be dangerous though, if they can chew them apart quickly or break of chunks. Mom said she can often hear him gnawing on it so it does occupy him.

Good questions ^^

Have you tried covering the crate, with a blanket or something, so he can't see out of it? I know that helped my friend with her doggies.

I was also going to suggest covering the crate with a blanket so it feels enclosed. One of my dogs didn't like the metal crate and only wanted to sleep in one of those vari kennels. Maybe you could also try moving the crate closer to you again for a bit.

Yes he has several bones and a kong in his crate. He is about 5 months old, so yes he needs to be crated at night and while i'm at work. I have had him for about 2 weeks now.

I will try to cover his crate with a blanket. His crate is too big to fit in the bedroom or the living room (unless I moved it to the living room at night and out it back in the dining room while not in use)

My husband was away for a week working in the states and Timber was getting much better being in his crate at night. Now that hubby's back, it's like he has regressed back like in the beginning (barking most of the night)
