Gobbles is my three year old minpin. I'm at my wits end as this is the fourth time in less than a year. Last July Gobbles started getting little bumps all over her back and started shedding and flaking really bad (only on her lower back). I took her to the vet and she told me that she had bacterial infection and gave me antibiotics for it. She get better for a while but the flakes and little bald patches came back. Vet gave me a longer course of antibiotics but it was no good after a few months. She then tried steriods...few months and the same thing. Moved out of state and new vet tried antibiotics again (i told her it wouldn't work). This time around we also did a food trial with IVD's Venison and Potato (she was on EVO before), this time not even two months and we have little crusty bumps. All this time I've been washing her with special shampoo also.

I don't want to put her on any more meds, at the very least until I find out what she is allergic to.

I want to take her to a dermatologist and get an allergy test done but it is a little pricey and I want to know if any one has any info they can provide for me beforehand. Also, has anyone tried any natural/herbal/hollistic products than can help. I'm tired of pumping drugs into her little body.

Thanks! :)

I have a friend with a German Pinscher. He "Beck" was getting little bumps also and flakey skin, sounds just like what you described. The difference was Beck was biting them off and causing himself to bleed all the time. They put him under and removed the little bumps which turned out to be filled with hair, little pockets of ingrown hairs. Pretty nasty actually, but they removed the bumps, had about 10 spots with a stich or two each, and after removing them that way they didn't come back.
