After reading something that really saddens me I felt compelled to post this poem that touches me dearly. I wish I knew the name of the author who wrote it but I don't.

Dogs are not disposable, the more homes it ends up in the more problems it will accumulates.

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget.

There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.

Hmm... Yes there it is, right on the top
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.

As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.

Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?

Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?

To put away my baggage,
To never repack?

I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage

Will you still want me?

My gosh, it made me want to cry! I wish the local Humane Society would post this. It's so important that once you adopt it's for life!

Even though it happens so much i still can't believe that people get dogs and just don't release that they are not disposable and do feel emotion, or worse yet they just don't care.

I am so thankful that I've had the privilege of unpacking my dogs. The dog that has shown me love for over 13 1/2 years had probably the most to unpack and I could never repay what I have gained from her being in my life. As much as I'm greatful to have all of them and had the chance to love all of them it pains me so much to know that in a perfect world they should have never been born. Ours are the lucky ones. There is a world of other ones that need our prayers.
