Why is my dog chewing off the fur of my other dog?

My dog Dixie is a female Pitbull-Boxer mix. She's about 11 months old. Today, I was with her when I noticed she was missing a LOT of fur on her shoulders. :yikes: Then we found out it was my male Pitbull-hound mix, Blue. He's fixed, but they still mate regardless. The chewing happens during mating. Why does he do this? Is there a specific reason? Is it dominance or should we be worried? For now my mom is separating them at night, putting them in separate crates.

They are actually trying to mate... or he just likes to mount her? Is she in heat? Neutered males can still hold an erection and ejaculate (minus sperm)... but the only times I've seen a neutered male actually consider trying to mate is with a female in standing estrus.

On the other hand, lots of dogs like to hump other dogs, people, and inanimate objects for a variety of reasons.
