I have a mini dachshund a little over 6 months old. Every night since I've had him (about 3 months) he gets put in the laundry room with his bed, some toys, a little food, and some water. Every night except the last 4 nights he's been fine with that. He goes to sleep and I don't hear a peep out of him. For some reason, the last 4 nights he's been whining and yelping for hours as soon as I put him in there. Nothing has changed, he has everything he needs, and if I let him out he just goes and sleeps on the floor.

Anybody have any idea why he's whining? He's driving me crazy!:yikes:

try putting a wind up clock in the room with him
It sounds sort of like a mothers heart

It's probably loneliness ...

or you may want to try a nice long walk before bed to wear the little bugger out!

Make sure whining never works for him. If he learns that when he whines that sometimes you come and let him out, or visit him, he will keep doing it. Only let him out if he is quiet.

This is why I like crates, you can see them, but not let them out. So if there is a real reason for the whining you can tell.

Is he holding 'it' all night, or do you need to let him out still?

My doxie would cry for an hour or so when he slept downstairs. He would also wake up and cry. When I moved him upstairs to my room in his crate it stopped. He would go right to bed, and normally sleep all night. I think he was round 6-8 months.

It might be that he is lonely, that was what was wrong with my boy.
