Why has my dog been eating grass?

He's never done this before but for the past couple of weeks he's been eating lots of grass everytime I take him for a walk.

Should I be worried?

They tend to eat grass if their stomach is upset or they are missing something in their diet,if it continues might be wise to check with your vet.

Its tends to be when they feel a bit sick. Our lot seem to do it all the time though, they get a good mix of bones, vegies and pasta and stuff so i dunno whats missing. You let them out for a run in the paddock and they all end up grazing like cattle!

My dog (and cat) just liked to eat grass. Crab grass. They would walk along the fence nibbling on all the tall stalks that were too close to the fence for the mower to get. Some animals eat it to throw up, some just like the taste.

Some dogs do like to just eat grass. I never truely bought into the digestive upset or missing links theories. My dogs just like to munch on grass when it gets long. Just be careful with strange lawns. People do put down fertilizers and pesticides on lawns. That can be a dangerous combination for animals ingesting it.

What's weird though, is that he's 11 and he's never eaten grass before at all. Maybe I should start introducing some veggies into his regular diet?

When max was about to throw up I rushed him outside. He didn't throw up but he started grazing frantically like a cow. So it's either to settle the tummy or to throw up therefore settling the tummy, and then there are those that just like grass. Max would also eat it if he was outside alone and really got bored.

Orson has been a life long grazer..........we have tried very hard to stop him from this habit.

Phoebe seems to be one that munches grass when she isn't feeling well.........she doesn't just eat ANY type of grass though, she is funny to watch. She searches out certain blades of grass and delicately bites them and chews them up. LOL
