I was chitchatting with my sister-in-law, and now I am mad. She just rehomed her dog. The reason? She barked too much. I was shocked, because the dog had always been very quiet when I visited. When I asked about it, it turns out that the dog had just taken up the barking habit a few weeks earlier. I asked my sis-in-law if she had tried to correct the barking. She said no, because "You can't change a dog's natural personality. If they start barking, they'll keep barking. And that's not the dog for us."

This is the second dog my stupid SIL has gone through in past 18 months! The first one was an adorable little lab mix. The first time she ever tried leaving the dog out of its crate alone in the house was when her family left on a day trip. They were gone for 6 hours! When they came back, the 5-month-old pup had peed and pooped on the floor, shredded some newspapers and magazines, and chewed up two pairs of shoes. My SIL got rid of the pup, because it obviously "didn't have the personality and temperament to be a house dog."

And now she's talking about another dog. "Because sooner or later, I'll find one with the right makings to be a pet."

WELL-BEHAVED DOGS ARE NOT BORN THAT WAY! THEY ARE TAUGHT! There is no such thing as the "do-not-chew-on-the-furniture gene," that some dogs have in their DNA and other dogs do not. You can't get a pup and expect it to know exactly what to do to please you.

Sorry, just had to rant.

Sounds like my grand daughter. Some people should not have dogs. My biggest gripe is seeing dogs chained up.

My brother and his wife are kinda the same way to a point. They had a beagle named Cody and they never spent any time with him. he spent most of his time in a large cage and was let outside to do his business and was allowed to roam the house but as SOON as he did something wrong he went back in the crate until it was time to go outside again. They decided to get rid of him (which in my opinion was definately the right decision) I offered to take him but they said no he is beyond help he's just bad. :O He was not that bad. HE WAS A BEAGLE lol he howled, he got into the garbage and he got up on the table. WOW what a horrible dog. heaven forbid he do things that beagles do when they haven't been trained to do otherwise. But they gave him to a family that lives on a farm out in the country so that was a good decision and I am sure he will be much happier there. NOW they have this horrible little rat of a dog that completely runs the house. They bring him over to my moms house and he marks EVERYTHING and they do NOTHING about it. I know the dog isn't the horrible one but he is just out of control and they don't do anything about it. So I'm sure it will only be a matter of time until this one is gone too. I think they should stick with cats.

My uncle (well, not so much my uncle as his wife and stepdaughter) is like that. They got two Husky/GSD mix puppies, and when the wife and stepdaughter no longer wanted to take care of them, they went out in the backyard. Then they started digging in the yard, so they rehomed one of them. Now the remaining dog is lonely and is barking, and they are wanting to get rid of him because he's not a "suitable pet", either.

People who refuse to be understanding deserve a pet rock.

ugh, I know, its so frustrating. I know a woman like this, and I have to tell you that she goes through husbands the same way she does dogs!

What I don't understand is people like a lady I work with who still lives with her Dad. They got a $450 pug puppy and "could not afford" for the poor girl to get her shots. So a year or so down the road she gets parvo, they said they couldn't afford the treatement. She died at the Vets, they weren't even kind enough to PTS. I guess they "couldn't afford it." Then, not even two weeks later she drove 2hrs away to get a $750 pug, same sex and same color. When she showed her to me, the cute little thing, all I could think of/say was "I thought your buget was to tight right now..." But they missed their dog too much, and had to start the ugly process all over again!

Sad stories.

People need to understand the financial commitment when they get pets. Of course they are cute and you can get pets for very little at a shelter, but they cost money to take care of the way they should be.
People also need to understand puppy behavior and correct it, instead of getting rid of the puppy.
My first poodle ruined MANY MANY things when she was a puppy.
My new poodle escaped from her playpen while we were out recently and did her business all over the house.
However, I would never have been mad at either of them. It is puppy behavior.
Some people just arent cut out for pets.

I agree some people should not be pet owners. There is alot of work and effort that is needed to have any animal. I just wish that some people would stop and think before they ask how much is that doggy in the window.... That doggy in the window is like a family member and need your attention as much as anyone else will.....
