For the past week or two Teddy has yelped 4 times. it happens when he has a slipper or my Teddy bear or his blanket and he is giving it the big head shake and then all of a sudden he yelps and drops what he was shaking and get this really sad hurt look on his face :( I feel so bad for my poor boy.

I took a look at this teeth and there doesn't seem to be any loose ones and they look to be in good shape. I'm wondering if maybe he is just biting his lip or pinching it or something like that.

What do you think?

Oh and just a side note, He is eating fine and he chews on his bones without a problem. it's only when he is swinging something around in his mouth.

Sometimes when my dog Andrew is swinging a toy around, he hits himself with it, yelps, then drops it. Hopefully that's all it is. Are his toys really soft, or do they have some hard parts?

Well the Teddy bear has hard eyes so I thought about that being it. Cause he can swing his rings around no problem and they are heavy but for some reason when he does it with something light and really gets it flying and it starts whiping around thats when he yelps. I'm positive there is no ear infection. His ears aren't hot or red and they don't smell at all. I have been keeping em clean. Also he can shake ok. Like when he wakes up he gives a good shake from h is head to his tail and that doesn't seem to bother him

Maybe it's flicking him on the side of his head/neck and stinging?

Sawyer did that with a rope the other day, yelped, dropped it and backed away a couple of paces to stare at it. Then he looked around to see if anyone had noticed and trotted off like nothing had happened. :)

Most of Andrew's toys are really soft and he swings them around with no problem, but one of the toys has hard eyes, and when he swings that around, he sometimes hits himself with the eyes and yelps.

That's the first thing that crossed my mind too, Zoom. He may have strained a muscle or pulled something a bit.

Try keeping him from playing with things that he likes to shake for a week or two (even better) and see if it stops.

Also, when you've got him laying across you and quiet, gently knead his neck with your fingers, feeling for any spots that feel warmer or seem to get a reaction from him to indicate some tenderness.

Hope Teddy feels better!

when Hammie had an ear infection, there was no redness, no odor, no warmth, no signs of irritation at all. it was him shaking his head that got my attention, then he'd yelp if he rubbed his ear. I took him to the vet, and he had a really bad infection. there are often no signs until there is pain, then it's a rush to the vet. alot of times you don't have the odor with a bacterial infection.
