Mocha is! We were idiots and didn't do nearly enough research, so we looked in the paper, called up a few people with puppies, and ended up deciding on her. She almost died three days later (despite a health certificate saying she was in good health, and the vet who issued it wouldn't take any responsibility) so I like to think that maybe it was meant to be or something, but I know that's just me trying to justify it. She's a BYB dog, and I love her dearly and would never give her up, but we were morons for not researching enough.

Panna was originally from a BYB and Cannelle from a pet store, but we got both as rescues after they were given up by their original owners.

I don't know for sure. Spanky's littermates and mother were all dropped at the pound. They were turned in as strays found in the woods. The shelter thought the people who brought them in were probably the owners, though. Whether the breeding was accidental or not, the mother nor pups was wanted.

Cider is from a petstore. Toss up on skeazy breeder or the Dunville puppy mill. Guess she looks a little fieldy line like, but she's conformationally challenged either way. Just happy she's still healthy..

Wow.. I found it so interesting to read all of your stories.. :)

Riot is from a reputable breeder..

Tyr is from a reputable Sled Dog breeder

and Princess is a rescue.. She is originally from up north out in Nunavit, then got shipped down to Quebec and then ended up in a humane society here and Tim rescued her from there.

My sister's Happy is from at least a BYB - we actually suspect it was a mill.
Kota was a rescue so it's impossible to say. His behaviours and mannerisms lead me to think he wasn't bred well, though.

Auggie is from an amazing breeder, and I am so glad I met her.

I actually was thinking this morning about taking some photos of Auggie and Happy side by side to show the difference between the two... it's really... powerful imagery.

This is a really interesting thread.

I can only assume that Zoey is the product of a BYB or "oops" litter of some sort, since she's a mixed breed.

I'm going to add to what I said. At first I thought we were just going by did we actually acquire them From a BYB/puppy mill/pet store but since we are also considering where they originated then Max sort of came from a BYB but sort of didn't. This is just what my mom told me. A woman who was a Chinese Shar-Pei breeder, mom said that she showed her dogs, took great pride in her dogs. One day her female escaped and got pregnant. Then out comes Max and his siblings. Well the breeder was furious and sent all the puppies to the rescue. Then Max got a home, was "too hyper and bites"(AKA was a puppy with puppy energy and puppy nipping) and got returned. If we turned him down or returned him he was going to be put to sleep. Instead he got 10 years with 6 people who loved him... and then got put to sleep. So I guess you can say we bought him some time ;)

But I guess he was sorta a BYB, I just don't buy that a good breeder would let her bitch run off and get pregnant and then give the dogs to a rescue and not take responsibility for them.

Lilly was BYB. Sorta. She came from a working amish farm. Her mother was a hunting dog and Lilly would have grown up to be a hunter if we hadn't taken her. But she wasn't actually bred for the purpose of making money, it's just that to the Amish, an animal is an animal and does not receive medical care. I don't know if that even counts as BYB because their way of life is so different. I, in my infinate childhood wisdom, begged my mother to breed her so we could have lots of baby Lilly's running around. Thank God my mother had some sense and spayed her ASAP.
Radar and Puss were both rescues from the shelter I work at. Both were owner surrenders. Radar because they had a baby and Puss was unknown.

Here's Nik's story completely. When I was nine, I lost my puppy Rosie. About four months later, I wanted a new dog, so I found Nik's add in the newpaper. There were four puppies- 3 when we got there at the owner's house. They seemed nice- a young couple with two really gorgeous shelties. I picked her out right away, and we drove off with her that day. Luckily we were a committed home for her.

Nik isn't nearly as bad looks wise as some BYB shelties, but if you put her next to Trey, there is no comparison.

They're the same age too.

funny thing is, i think whoever bred sophie, was trying to breed pig dog. she was advertised as boxer/mastff but i'm really not believing that.
we got shown pictures of her parents and her mum looked just like her, only not so big. and the picture of her dad was him a big black dog standing over a huge dead boar.
funny thing is, sophie is relaly not the hunting type. first time she saw a kangaroo she just smiled at it and wagged her tail. lol.
we knew from the start her hips were bad and she'd probably get skin problems but we figured she may as well have a good life until then. better than her being bought to go pigging, not hunting and being shot beause of it. we dont think the puppy's were treated very well, everytime we picked up a stick she used to cower. doth her due claws had been hacked off and it took her months till she relised she was allowed in the house. we bought her home the first day, and she just sat their. we moved her into the shade so she didn't get burnt and she just sat there. didn't even move. she didn't know what love or anythgin was. she was so shy. you'd never know now, she's such a bossy old girl. lol

daisy was a pet shop puppy, mum was lucky to get her. she got her for grace because she didn't want another boig dog because they knocked her down with her tail. so mum got her this puppy and put her in a box and gae her to grace on christmas. she opened the box going "please dont let it be a skunk" and daisy popped out and licker her all over the face. lol those two were really made for each other.

bustrs story is simple. mum found him in a car park. still had his collar on, was CRYING at the back of a shop. lol i'm so glad mum bought him home.

mac was another pet shop puppy. not much to tell there either really. the woman tried to convince us she was pure foxy. LOL pet shop people

mum rang me while i was at the show last year and goes "i got another dog" for years she had been offered all sorts of really good loockign pups. she always turned them down. she thought she might get another one afer sophie. a mastiffy breed. a girl. she relaly didn't like ACD's or BC's or workign dogs. she likes the big heavy dogs.
so what dog did she get? i fat little 4 months old male BC/ACD. lol thats what they said he was but i relaly can't see much more in him that is border apart from his tail. he screams lab at me.
the story is he belong to a station, hey'd bred him to be their new working dog. btu they were loosing money and he was shooting all him animals. his horses, cattle, dogs, everything. this woman bought these 2 pups into town to try to give them a chance and find them a home. mum agreed to have a look at them and then ask around to try to find them a home. she said she looked at harry and his eyes said it all "take me home now, i'm yours" she got him out and put him down on the ground and that was it. he just wanted to be with my mum. he was huge and very spoilt and fat.
she bought him home and he just followed her everywhere.
i'm glad she got him. she couldnt get attached to dogs like she used to after she lost martha, she was my mums absolute heart dog. she took her EVERYWHERE and they had a huge understanding. sge looked after me and grace while we gre up. she only lived till 4 and we suspect my dad killed her out of jelousy and just to get at my mum. mum spent 1000's on her vert bill and we still lost her. thats why i was so glad mum got harry, because after martha she just refused to get attached to dogs properly.

so theirs the extended versions on all our dogs. i know a lot of you have already heard them all but any chance to talk about them. lol

Lucy is a BYB dog. I was very, very well aware of how bad they were--to hand over that money went against so many things I stood for. The women was only breeding bichon/poodle mixes...and here we are now, just a year later, and she's breeding 3 totally different things now.

She has health problems now at only a year old, I shudder to think of what might go wrong when she's older.

We did get our money back though, which kind of makes me feel a little better.

Weston, my oldest Dal is a BYB before I knew better. I also learned my lesson the hard way with him-he is epileptic and the breeder knew his grandmother was...

Marley, my youngest dal, is also a product of a BYB. I learned the hard way with her also since I got both her & her brother, they came to me with parvo. Her brother passed away but thankfully we saved Marley. Still very heartbreaking, her brother was my heart dog :(

I wont do anything but rescue from now on.
