Well, Sam fits in the tub alright but she no longer fits under the faucet so rinsing and wetting her is an issue. Using a cup takes too dang long and I forgetting o buy a removable shower head. Plus I always smell like wet dog afer so we now shower together. She waits outside the tub while I shower and when I am done I put her in and bathe her. Then we get out and dry off together. This also solves the shaking off problem. I just throw a towel on her as soon as we get out so she shakes but it doesnt go anywhere.

Both of mine fit in the bath tub fine but I can't bathe Bear in there with his long fur. It clogs up the drain which will clog the septic system. So they both get bathed outside with the hose.

Giny, what do you mean by an oversized Newf? An average size is 150lbs but not uncommon to see a male at 160 or even 170lbs? Do you mean even bigger than this?

Sophie way too big for the bath, could probably fir her in there but we would need 2 people to lift her, plus she'd flip out and probably do more damage to her back. meaning all four usually get bathed out hte back under the hose, but when its cold I'll wash buster in the shower or in the tub

I meant a big Newf, not sure how much they weighed but they certainly were a lot bigger then the average Newfoundland that came in. I'd say they were at least 170lbs if not closer to 200lbs.

I don't have a bathtub. I wash them in the shower. They fit in there easily but Boy really hates it and doesn't cooperate at all. Fortunately they almost never need a bath.

LOL.... I was romping around in the backyard with the two foster pups and since it was so hot we were playing with the sprinkler. Both of them were wet, so I figured I'd just get some shampoo and bathe them while playing... sorta. I took a little while cause they thought we were playing and wouldn't really cooperate being puppies and all.... but I bathed them! And they had a good time! Ha Ha! And I got really, really soaked, too, much to the construction workers joy, who are re-doing our neighbor's house. *sigh* ;)

We wash our big dogs with the hose. We don't really bathe them with shampoo or anything, just a rinse if we were at the lake or somewhere where they get real muddy/dirty. It's more a game, Gunnar loves chasing the water and he'll stand there and let you squirt him. Daisy, we have to hold by the collar and spray her down. Bruzer is the only one who gets baths, maybe 2-3 a year. We do him in the kitchen sink.

Leo, now up to a whopping 10 pounds, gets bathed in the kitchen sink, with plenty of room to spare.

He doesn't play in the dirt at all, and still needs a bath every month or so - he starts to get that doggy smell...

Sam must be the stinkiest dog ever! I HAVE to bathe her once a week or I cant stand the smell. Also if I were to wet her (say hose her off) then let her dry she stinkd sooo bad. If she gets wet she must be shampooed.

Do some searching in the Food forum. Odor like this is often diet related.

What about going to Toys-R-Us or some other little toy store and getting one of those cheap plastic kiddie pools (BTW they are on sale right now :) ) and using that to bath her outside or in you garage. Then fill a bucket on the side with warm water to rinse her with. Put the bucket outside/garage fill it with the hose a little and then stir in boiling water till it gets to the right temp. A little warmer in the bucket than pool cause it will cool a little. I do that for Honey girl cause she hates to get chilled and I have to wipe my WHOLE bathroom (ceilings included) if I try to bath her in the tub. It's a pain but it works. But I would try the plain old hose first. That is a lot easier unless they don't like it. :)
