We have a Jack Russell and a Yorkie.... the yorkie's whining has rubbed off onto the Jack and this is extremely annoying when we are in the car. They both enjoy whining for no particular reason and have resorted to even running around the car frantically. They enjoy the heck out of car rides but if we seem to approaching ANYTHING (so much as a stop sign)... they are out of control. We can be on the interstate for 30 minutes, and they are both whining NONSTOP the entire time... Any suggestions??? They go with us EVERYWHERE! Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

First of all, I think it's a good idea to crate them both during car rides. It's safer for you and your dogs--in an accident, they are less likely to be injured if they are restrained and they won't be jumping in your lap or doing something else distracting to you that could cause an accident.

When you are going to put the dogs in the car, say, "Into the car" and treat them both. Once they are safely in the car, say, "good" and treat again. Once you are driving, every few minutes, if they have behaved say, "good" (if possible have someone sit near them and treat them when you say "good"). Whenever they whine give a sharp, firm, "No" but make no eye contact, do not turn to look at the dogs.

Welcome to the boards! Be sure to post pictures of your guys. :) THey soundd very cute.

We have said NO nonstop and it doesnt work AT ALL.... we will have to try the crate in the car though.... sad because they both like to look around. Safety first though!
