Well.. people who frequent chat may know that I've been looking at a pomeranian. This lady is rehoming her dogs, and I was going to look at a 2yr old male pomeranian. She has other dogs as well, and I went to meet the little dude and everyone else last night. Pomeranians are basically the only small dog I'll ever consider owning (maybe papillons, too.) Since my favourite breed, and a breed that I will probably own within 2 years is the Ibizan Hound, I think it's important to get the small dog first so the puppy can be raised around it.

The lady is really nice, I quite like her. She's really trying to find them good homes, even going to get me to sign a contract (dog comes back to her should it happens that I can't keep him/her, etc)

Anyways, so I'm a bit undecisive. I met two that I like. They're both healthy.
Boo:
He's the 2yr old neutered male.. he is a very happy calm laid back guy. But he is a Fatty McFatFat. I had to paw through some fat rolls to feel his ribs, however that can be fixed. He has good obedience, he's a bigger guy .. I think once he's at a correct weight he'll be 8 LBs or so. He's cute, although I did have a different picture in my brain from his summer pics.. however I can understand that his winter coat would change his appearance. He's the second cutest. (Sorry, but looks do factor into my decision as does personality. Maybe I'm just shallow. :lol-sign: Though it rates third compared to personality and health) I think he would make a great agility dog and competitive obedience dog.

Then's there's Casey
Casey is a 1 1/2 yr old (I think.) unfixed female. In pomeranians, the gender difference is more noticeable than other breeds and they are well.. bitches (or can be, sorry). She didn't really like the chihuahua female that this lady had, and made it obvious. Not a full blown fight just grumblegrumble. She, is by far the cutest of them all (like, serious cute cute foxy thing). She's a small little lady, at 4-5 pounds. She was the thinnest of the bunch, at a correct weight, although she needs some muscle. (because all of her dogs were packing some extra weight, but the lady means well.) She's a little more untrained than Boo, however Boo is older and a bit calmer. She wasn't as into me as some of the other dogs (the chi was totally enthralled with my presence. But I don't like chihuahuas, both boo and her were playin). She would make a good comp. obedience dog with some more elbow grease into her training.. since boo knows sit, down and stay better than she does. She's a bit barkier than Boo is. (Ya know, females need to be heard.)

I can take both on a "trial try-out." However I'm still unsure.. what do you guys think?

personally id go with the one that seemed most interctive with you.

yes it takes dogs time ot bond, but especially with spitz breeds, if there not interested in you...they aint gonna listen.

and she is tiny for a pom.

Boo seems like a better choice in my mind.
id also be worried that taking in an alpha kind of female, letting her get established in your home might cause issues brining in a puppy at a later point.

Yeah, both boo and her were busy saying hi to everyone and playing with toys. They didnt sit down and cuddle, the only that did was the chi, she was a little less active. So I might have to visit again. I'm just really evenly split on this. I do think Boo would be easier to train however the ease of training isn't in my decision because I'm already preparing myself for a independent hound whose ears shut off frequently. :lol-sign: However, Casey is a fighter for the top for sure.

If you are getting an ibizan within the poms lifespan, gender may be kind of important. From meeting and talking to a bunch of beezers and their breeders/owners, same sex aggression is not unheard of in the breed. One breeder I visited has to crate and rotate all her males, and a few others I have talked to have the same issue.

Just know that ibizans rarely come up in rescue, and it's pretty difficult to get your hands on a female ibizan from a breeder unless you make really good friends, prove to them that you are really dedicated to the breed and are going to show (this often means having another dog before one of theirs that you have handled in the ring, preferably championed out), and are willing to do a co-ownership. On the other hand, many have extra males for pet and show homes. They are much easier to come by..so it may be that a female pom would be a better choice. Though I don't know if this particular female pom is the right one for your household, for the reasons Foxy mentioned.

Okay, never mind. Apparently she decided not to rehome to me because I rent. :lol-sign:

Oh well.

However, thanks for the gender info Romy.
