A dog that is very loyal; guard dog and needs a moderate routine for training and exercise as compared to other dogs who requires a lot of time. Dog should be medium to large size and easily available. Thanks!

Hmm... What is your life style like?

Where would the dog stay at night and during the day?

How often are you home?

How often do you have time for your dog?

Hmm... What is your life style like?

I go to the office and will be free after 6 pm.

Where would the dog stay at night and during the day?

In my home

How often are you home?

At an average 13 hours with 8 hours sleep.

How often do you have time for your dog?
two to three hours (but someone else will see the dog; food and give him a few minutes at different intervals)

So ?

what about a doberman pincher= is a dog of medium size, with a square body that is compactly built, muscular and powerful, giving it great endurance and speed. They are elegant in appearance, with a proud carriage, which reflects great nobility and temperament. Always energetic, watchful, determined, alert, fearless, loyal and obedient.

or the german shepherd

Is a strong, agile, well muscled animal, which is very alert and full of life and when the occasion demands, eager, fit and willing to serve as companion, watchdog, blind leader, herding dog, or guardian. They have built-in instincts for guarding the home, which is why they are considered to be one of the best guard dogs. Also their sheer size and deep powerful barks make them a great burglar deterrent.

or chow chow

medium in size, they have a keen intelligence, with an independent spirit and innate dignity giving this dog an aura of aloofness and it is naturally reserved and discerning with strangers.

like any of them

Good Guard Dog Breeds- for first time inexperienced owners, or people with children are:- Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Irish Setters or Wheaten Terrier.

Good watch dogs, but they greet 'intruders' with a wagging tail, thus not very good guard dogs :p

How about an adult dog from a shelter/rescue? You don't seem to have alot of time to raise a puppy, at least not enough :(

I agree, check out your local Humane Society.

Also, how much dog experience do you have?

A Doberman and a GSD is NOT for a beginner owner at all. They need someone who is going to be their pack leader, not their equal or follower.

I had dogs when I was very young but my relatives have dogs and I'm not scared of them but I'm not really experienced as a master. So if not Dobby or GSD which dog can you recommend for me? American Pit Bull? and if I still choose from GSD/Dobby which breed can I handle better or more easily? Thanks!

Have you checked out the breed selector I posted above? :)

If you answer all questions truthfully, it will give you very good results.

Believe me , a barking Golden or Lab will scare someone more than a small dog !! All I want is warning , which I've always had....An intruder will shoot ANY breed dog before a dog even has a chance to attack . So why take a chance with an aggressive dog .

It depends which lines you get them from. American lines tend to be easier to deal with as a first time owner. Whereas the german lines are still bred for drive, and agressive/dominant tendencies that make it a better working dog. I've seen GSD's who were as easy to deal with as labs, but GSD's like Caza are DEFINATELY NOT for the inexperienced or soft owner. Same with Dobies. I've seen some who where soft and easy to deal with to some who are hardcore working dogs.

Thats not entirely true. My aunt's boyfriend (a phycho nut) pulled a gun on her once, and her Rottie took that man down and grabbed the gun (that dog was so cool, I miss him). And big dogs like Rotties and GSD's can take a bullet and keep going. Those breeds will protect you till the end, and I would rather have help in fighting off the bad guy than having a dog sit back and watch. And I know my dogs would put their lives on the line to protect my family.
