Hey all. I just need a few suggestions on the breed I should be leaning towards..

I need a dog that is good with young children and other dogs.
I need a dog that will be good indoors and out. (mostly indoors)
I need a dog that is a good watch dog on account I will be staying most of my time alone with my son.
I would pref hair that isnt to long.
I would like a larger breed also..
So if yall have a fav breed that fits this discription let me know!

I am going to have an acre of land.
I have owned dogs all my life..
Ranging in sizes from
German shepherds
to
Rat terriers
I have experiance with all sizes..
I am not really a fan of golden retrievers or labs..

Hmm. I would suggest a blackmouth cur, but they might be hard to find in your area.

Try the breed selector tool and see what you come up with.

Well some of your points are not easy to obtain away from the breeds listed.'Then you need to hook up with a breeder of watch dogs that can test and help you find a good dog with other dogs and kids.

My breed are guard dogs not watch dogs which mean they do more then watch they will protect meaning bite once they give a watch dog warning you got a few seconds to leave.

So what about a Rhodoasian?? i heard they are great with kids, and are good watch dogs.

I would recommend a dog from the sporting group. :) Typically these dogs make wonderful dogs for children and many of them are good watchdogs as well.

I vote for a Rhodesian too! Good watch dogs, loyal companions and great with kids!

Chesapeakes are wonderful family pets, yet are very protective of one's person and property. They can be a bit hard headed, so they need an experienced owner.
I love Chessies! I vote for them. My second vote would be a Ridgeback. I am not a fan of labs or goldens either. I do not see where they would be good watchdogs. I friend of mine has a bittany and she is protective of her family and property. But, I do not know much about them. Then, there are bull mastiffs.

i'd say a Doberman: Most definetly female. rather than a male. They have all the qualities that you are expressing that you want. Since you have already had large dogs, this would be my choice.

Doberman Pincsher, but I highly reccomend a Golden Retriever, although their coats are long, and you can shave the dog. Dobermans, I have had no experience with, but they are watchdogs, they were bred to do that. :) Goldens I have had lots of experience with, great family/children pets. :) Watchdogs, etc. Golden's I think should be your first choice, but of course it is your decision, these dogs get along great with other people that they know! :D Good luck! :)

Spirit, I don't think it would be fair to get a dog and shave them everytime their hair grows in.

I think a Chessie or Rhodesion would be a great choice.

Well I am going to say Saint Bernard. They are wonderful animals with children and other dogs. They are okay in weather as long as it isn't too hot. They are wonderful watch dogs, their size is deterrent enough for any unwelcome visitor. My boy is a big cuddle bug, but nobody would think of coming throught the door unwelcomed when 190lbs of dog is on the otherside! And if you aren't looking for something so big, females are typically smaller than males. Saints come in rough and smooth coat, my boy is a smooth, which means he has a naturally short coat. And you say you would like a larger breed...well you just might not be wanting something this big:p . They are a wonderful breed and I will never be without one in my life.
