This article was interesting. Santeria...the man wants to sacrifice goats and lams and chickens. All animals killed daily in this country for the purpose of human consumption. I'd like to think if I had chickens, and it IS legal to keep them here in my city as long as you are 100ft from your nearest neighbor...that I'd be able to slaughter them for the purpose of eating?

The only thing that bothers me in this...is that he is wasting the remains...in essence throwing them away. Now were I a raw feeder I would actually find this man a useful neighbor...being serious here. I wonder that some local raw co op has NOT contacted this man to take his leftovers from his religious rites? I am not being facetious here, this is good, viable protein being wasted.

Thoughts? IMO this is less about religion and more about people being squeamish....from what I know of Santeria the animals throats are cut...which is a means used in Kosher slaughter is it not? The waste bothers me...not the deaths of the animals...and assuming he is keeping them humanely and in accordance with husbandry rules.

If he is not allowed to legally keep livestock for certain I see the cities point..but if he is...but their issue is with his slaughtering them...I guess I don't get it.

Yeah I mean if he is not abusing his animals while they are alive and he is allowed to have those types of animals on his property then I really don't see the big deal. I mean it sucks that he isn't consuming the remains or letting someone else use them but really what he is doing is no different then all the animals being slaughtered on a daily basis for food. It seems that it's his reason that is causing an uproar and I think that's BS. If they are being treated humanely while alive and killed humanely then I think they should leave him alone.

I think religious rights end where you engage in an illegal act and/or infringe upon the rights of others.

Should a man be able to marry and engage in sex with a 12 year old under the guise of religious freedom? Nope.

Should a man be able to slaughter a chicken? sure... I mean I dont think he should do it in the middle of the local mall and make everyone see it if they dont want to... but if he does it at home or in a religious place, why not? I mean it is pretty hypocritical to say he cant slaughter a chicken for religious purposes and then go to the local restaurant and eat a fried chicken dinner.

killing an animal...is not illegal done humanely...so yes I agree why are they after this man? I mean if I could I would have my own chickens and use their eggs AND bodies...at least for the dogs?? It's very, odd...

I don't think it's horrible, that people should know where meat comes from...I just think this man is wasting perfectly good protein...if there's a crime, it's that...lol.
