For me it is the bus. I find people are more willing to talk to me and ask questions on the bus. From what breed Sheena is, what type of Service dog to even what type of food she eats. We even discuss the pros and cons of spay/neutering. A lot of good has been acomplished in these bus conversations.

So where do you find you do your best educating?

When I stop in at the chain stores for dog treats or toys - I always end up getting asked for advice by a pitiful person that isn't getting help from the store employees, especially if I have a dog with me. Seeing a well trained dog ignoring all of the hubbub seems to impress people!! :p

Tends to be at work for me. I get lots of people who will either email me or come into my office to ask for advice.

When I am out with my dogs no matter where it seems, I get all kinds of people coming up to ask questions.

My vet, businesses where we visit, when I am out training, and sometimes even when I don't have dogs I get asked as I will have a leash hung around my neck, or a dog related shirt on, or club pins, etc.

I always enjoy talking to people who want to strike up a conversation with me about my dogs, or Rottweilers, or dogs in general. And sometimes people might learn something, and sometimes so do I!

With a lot of pals and dogs playing with their owner, we find it educating in the Dog Parks.

The bus works for me too- especially If I have Duke with me. Our bus laws here require dogs to be muzzled so usually the first question i get is- why is he on the bus if he bites. After that the conversation usually goes to- cool your dog rides the bus with you, (insert dog related conversation here)

Also when I go to pet chain stores or to the fish store to get my crickets where Duke and I have been doing alot of training recently- all of the employees want to come over and pet him or ask about my clicker etc.

Usually anywhere that my dogs are with me. People are impressed with their training, sometimes ask training advice. Sometimes they just start talking about dogs, and the conversation actually flows "actually..." and educate them on where they are going wrong or just tell them something they never even knew.

Also, I tend to do a lot of educating in my vet tech classes. Most are just normal, average, not so well educated pet owners. We'll be in a conversation about something related to animals, then suddenly there's all these myths being spread or they just don't know the answer, so I'll chirp in. I'm quickly becoming the 'next Cesar Millan'. They meant it as a compliment, and I did thank them, but I also had to clarify what is a better training technique!! Lol

I'm never out with without my dogs and I constantly get asked questions about how I trained them, do I breed, eating habits, grooming and you name it I've been asked. So I guess just about anywhere. Timmie's is the one place where people will come right up and grab a spare chair and strike up a conversation about dogs. I usually only stop at Timmie's when I am totally exhausted and need a juice to catch my breath so I think that's the only place I would prefer just resting. But I never put a damper on any question I am asked.
