Just out of curiosity, how many people's dogs lie down while eating? Gunnar does but I think it is because he is on part raw and you really can't stand while enjoying a big hunk of meat now can you? LOL! Even when he is eating kibble he lie's down. My mom's GSD/Airedale also lies down.

Skye's food is in a raised dish, so that would be a negative. But he lays down when he eats his treats though.

Well, it's not good for large dogs to eat from the ground while standing. So maybe that has something to do with it. I don't know though...

I've read that before, that they should eat from a raised bowl. I have one but it has plastic bowls which I just found out harbor bacteria so no more raised bowls for my guys.

Sometimes they'll lie down, but usually they stand, even when they're eating raw meat. When they're eating meat though they usually carry it away from their bowls.

Oh, I didn't know about that. Luckily Skye's bowls are stainless steel. They were an Xmas present one year. He wasn't very impressed with them. He was like "where's the food?" hehehe :p

Misha sits in front of her bowl, and sits for yoghurt, but lies down for anything that requires chewing and concentration.....

Most of the time mine stands but the other day he layed down to eat out of his bowl. I wish he wouldn't move everytime I do, because then I didn't have a chance to get my camera. :(

Elevated food bowls scare me as I have read that it increases the risk of gastric torsion "bloat." Having lost a dog from this before I try to do all I can to prevent it. Plus, if you think about how wild dogs eat, it's either laying down or standing up. There are no elevated food bowls in nature!

Molly stands to eat but she lies down when eating treats.

I do have a lazy kitty that lies down, though. ;)
