No. I always had dogs, and towards the end of my childhood I guess you could call it, I had a lot more dogs then most people. When I became a teen (pre-teen) then I started getting interested in dog breeds. Before that, I loved my dogs and they were the dogs I wanted. Didn't know too much about dog breeds when I was kid. I knew I had dachshunds and a toy poodle.

Did you have a 'dream dog' or am I just weird?
Yup, always wanted a rottweiler.

And did you ever get one?
Sort of, lol. I have a rottie mix, and that's as close as I'm getting for now.

Will you ever get one?
For sure. My second dog will for surely be a purebred rottweiler.

yep, we had American Pit Bull Terriers and Mastiffs and mutts.
I REALLY wanted and still do a Beagle or Coonhound. They are so neat. I got my half coonhound as a compromise and I still want a full LOL.

I was 13 when our Irish Setter died and I started studying hunting breeds for my dad . Saw pictures of Goldens and how they were great family dogs ,,,,so I guess my dream came true ! Got our first in 1949 and my very first on my own in 1956 . I consider Ollie as a Golden with his personality etc . I've been spoiled with the best !!!!!!!!

When I was a kid I wanted a cocker spaniel it was my fave dog ever. Now I don't think I would get one b/c I know more and I don't thing I could do with the grooming and I also heard that they are prone to skin disease.

When I was a kid I thought Dalmatians were the best dogs ever and always wanted one. It had nothing to do with the movie though, I liked them long before I ever watched that. We had a Dal temporarily when I was 9 because she wasn't being taken care of properly in her previous home. I'd still like one of my own someday though... a liver girl.

More than anything though when I was a kid, I just wanted a big dog that wasn't a Rottweiler. I loved our Rotties, but they were the only dogs we'd ever had aside from the Dachshunds and I wanted something different.

A REALLY fluffy GSD. Not like a Shiloh or Tervuren, just.... fluffy. Not really long hair.

And now I do not want a GSD - no chance on earth. I have SEEN how double coated dogs shed, especially longhairs with full coats. I'll be sticking with shorthaired, non-shedding, or longhairs with coats like Borzois.

I was the kid with dog breed books sitting on her bookshelf. I often perused them wondering what kind of dog I'd get when I was older.

I went through several breeds, but the ones that stuck were longhaired dachshunds and newfies.

I always wanted a collie. Yes it was probably Lassie. We got a collie in 1989. Lassie as I named her when I was just 4 years old. She came with the name angelica, No way you could get me to call her that, as she was Lassie, so I thought lol.
She passed on in 2002.

I got Blaze in 2003. He is a poorly bred Collie, or sheltie, one or the other. he is to large for a sheltie(lots of shelties at the dog park, he towers over all of them lol its funny), but a tiny bit to small for a collie (A few collies at the dog park, and he is about 3 inchs or so smaller) . I just call him a collie though. what ever he is, I love him dearly and dont care if he is a sheltie, a collie or a mix of both (which he very well could be)

Would I have another? I honestly am not sure. I lvoe the breed. But I would love to have different breeds aswell. I would love a great dane. But we will just end up seeing what the shelter carries for me the day I want a new dog. I would also love another toy poodle. Somthing about those darn toy poodles just makes me melt lol.

lol Im all over the breed board huh, a collie, a great dane, and a toy poodle, all such different breeds.

I also would love a irish wolfhound, but the life span stops me from ever owning one.

I've been a crazy dog person since I was 6 years old. I was the only one in my school who knew every single breed recognized by the AKC. Thanks to the many dog books I read and memorized. Yes I was classified as a NERD for that.

I had a few dream dogs as a kid. One being a GSD after making friends with a neighbors male, named duke... he was gorgeous. Another was a bull mastiff... I knew a red male who would visit our house every once in a while, inviting himself right into our house to visit, and then leaving when he felt good and ready to.

I was never interested in the APBT. They weren't that appealing to me. I ended up with Reggin by chance. I never went out and looked for an APBT, he just kind of came into my life. He has been the funnest dog I have ever had. The best personality. The funniest sense of humor. He has a zest for life that I've never seen in a dog before. The breed is now my fave, so far.

I always wanted a German Shepherd... ever since I was 4 years old. A roaming neighborhood dog, who was a German Shepherd, visited my house ever day and was basically my best friend. : ) I would still like one, someday.

When I was 5, we got an Australian Shepherd mix, and I was like, "Well... I guess I'll settle for a Shepherd from a different country."

I really loved Border Collies when I was young. Probably around 8. My Mom saved a bunch of drawings/paintings I did of Border Collies. But, I was always told that they were "farm dogs". Many of my relatives live in Texas, and all of them have land/farms, and when I visited every summer I begged them to get a Border Collie so I could hang out with it. Then I ended up with one when I turned 13, ironically when I intended to get a German Shepherd.

I always wanted a borzoi....then strangely enough when I needed a service dog prospect pup an ad cropped up for service dog prospects..and they were borzois!

That, and an old fashioned neo. I could never get a modern one, it would make me all sad every time I looked at it.

Sibes were always awesome to me, cause they look really wolfy to a little kid. Some day when we buy some property, maybe in 5 or 10 years I want to adopt a senior husky. There are so many in rescue that could use a home.

I just wanted something BIG because my mom had always had small dogs (except Molly the Dobe when I was really little, she died when I was five but I always remembered her.) I got it in the form of Doom a little over 2 years ago. :)

Always big :) I grew up with a lab, and my grandparents had a lab/rottie mix. I just loved that you could use them for pillows and wrestle them and hug them without worrying about breaking them.

I think, like many have said, I wanted a husky. I read "call of the wild" in early elementary school, and found the wolf-type dogs so majestic. I also wanted a golden retriever, after watching "Homeward Bound" a plethora of times!
