When is it safe to take a puppy to a dog park?

My pup will be sixteen weeks old in a few days, and I would like to take him to a dog park soon after he gets his last round of shots. He is still relatively small (about 12 pounds), so I would have to take him to one that has a special area for smaller dogs. He is not dog aggressive nor fearful of other dogs.

Personally, I think 16 weeks with the shots complete is good. Others may have other opinions, but I felt fine taking my dogs anywhere at that age.

I think you need to wait 10 or more days for vaccines to be completely effective.

Ask your vet when the vaccines will be effective . . . then check the rules for your park. Usually its about 4 months, but sometimes its more. But otherwise . . . 4 months seems fine if he's good with other dogs and won't mix with the big boys.
