Mason doesn't sleep in our bed, except in the mornings after DH leaves for work, sometimes I will put him on DH's side of the bed. But I have been elbowed so many times by him, I am so afraid Mason would get hit or squashed. And I don't sleep as well with him in bed because of that. I fell asleep with him a time or 2 when I was nursing. And I can see the convenience with the nursing, but because Mason wouldn't stay awake to nurse, it wasn't good for me to lay in bed to nurse like that cuz then I fell asleep and he would fall asleep then and not eat.

I have a fisher price monitor, but not a video one. But his room is right across the hall, I could just step across the hall to see him.

Pam .... I agree that's it's easier , but nursing during the night requires diaper changes too . preferred getting up , change, rock and nurse and a good 3 hr sleep for both of us with no worries of smothering .

Yeah I would never be able to co-sleep either. Too worried the baby would be smothered (which happens a lot unfortunately)... or that they'd just fall when they're big enough to crawl. That, and if you just end up throwing the covers on their head while you sleep... so not worth the risk IMO.

I'm not worried about smothering him. You sleep much lighter when sleeping with baby--it's a mother's instinct. I don't use blankets when he sleeps with me.

We generally don't change his diaper anymore in the middle of the night until he wakes up at 4 or 5 am. Then he gets changed and I pump.

because milk production is highest overnight/early morning, and I don't get much milk from pumping so if I want to get anything I have to do it then. It's the only time of the day when I have not fed him within a couple hours. If I pump during the day, he will always have eaten recently and I get barely anything. I feed him on one side and pump the other. I need to get some milk for every other Saturday when he will be with my friend for a couple hours and for when I am at my doctor and my husband feeds him and to have some when I go back to school in a month. I don't know that I will be able to pump enough then to make it through every day so I want a little extra stored.

I plan on having my child sleep in their room from the day they come home. All that could change once I have a child but that's the plan for now.

I could never co-sleep because I'd be so scared of hurting the baby. I've known two people who have lost their child due to co-sleeping and the baby be smothered.

nursing at night rocks! no bottles to wash no getting up! my baby latches himself pretty much every time he eats at night. i change his dipe at around 5am, but i cloth diaper so i can stuff the diaper with an extra insert and not even have to worry about diaper changes in the middle of the night. i can't sleep without my baby next to me!

Chloe slept w/ me until she was 2 mos. But I had gotten a video monitor for my shower. Couldnt have lived without that. All I had to do in the middle of the night was open my eyes and i could see her. I REALLY suggest getting one. They have some pretty inexpensive ones. She is 9 mos and I still like being able to see her. That way in the morning I know if she is asleep pr awake playing without having to open her door. (she is a sound sleeper and the door wakes her.) and also I know if I need to wake up or if I can sleep a few extra mins. I hate to let her play alone in her crib for too long in the AM but if she is sleeping soundly I am certainly not going to wake her. lol.

We did cosleep but just me and Chloe in an extra room. It was the ONLY way I could get sleep and nurse plus I just preffered to sleep with her. I slept very lightly, though. I actually didnt get much rest so i would nap in the day when DH was up and he would watch the baby so I could get good, baby-free rest.

Yes, I did not sleep with my husband for the first 2 and 1/2 mos of Chloe's life, lol. I was so happy when we finally got to sleep in the same bed again. I just could not let her sleep w/ him in the bed. He has no concept of boundries while sleeping. he rolls over on me all the time. She and I slept in the guest room.

My husband doesn't sleep with us either. He is afraid he will roll on the baby and we only have a full size bed. Fathers don't have the same instinct/awareness of the baby so it's not as safe for them to sleep with a baby.

My two dogs sleep on the bed with us and I have never rolled over them or even gone near them. My two would be pretty easy to kill by smothering. Paul has woken up in terror thinking that he had rolled onto Lilly but it was just my baby blanket that I sleep with! LOL!
So, smothering for me would not be an issue.

When I have children I would like to have them in the room with me for at least 3 months.

My kids all came home to their own room except Shannon, we moved her out (we lacked a bedroom for her) when she was about 6 months old. But I have the theory of if they aren't wet, hungry, gassy and are being generally whiney, it's time for them to go in their own safe bed in their own room.
Also, I enjoy my privacy in my own room, and since I sleep lightly everytime they squeak I'd wake up. I had a miserable 6 months of baby sharing my bedroom.

I was wondering how people like the Arm's Reach Cosleepers. My daughter is pregnant, and I am thinking about getting it for her. I know only one person who has had it. She had it with her 3rd child (they didn't exist when she had her first 2), and she says it's the best thing.....but she's the only one I know who has even tried one.

I haven't tried one, because right now I just have the bassinet(pack'n'play) by my bed. But I have decided that with Baby #2, I will definitely be investing in the Arm's Reach Co-sleeper.

the thing about the arm's reach is that it is pretty much a pack N play with a super sturdy bassinet that you can take out when the child is too big for the bassinet. it is super sturdy but it's like a 4 inch drop into the sleeper so it's a bit difficult to feed them in the cosleeper or even to move them from your bed to the co sleeper. i'm really hoping as he gets older and starts sleeping for longer stretches that he will be able to sleep in there but now that he only sleeps about 3 hours at a time it's just easier for him to be in bed with me.

Katelynne sleeps in her own crib beside my bed. We dont have a extra room anyways. Im not ready for her to sleep in her own room.

She slept with me untill she was about 3.5 months old. I sleep much better without her. Its true you sleeo much lighter when they are with you. It is so much easier to nurse and not actually wake up.

Right now when she wakes up around 6 - 8 am I bring her into my bed, nurse and then we both fall back asleep

Biggest advice I can give any mom of any age. Do what works for YOU, not what everyone says. Experiament. If it works, great, if not, try something new

Eh not really Jenn... I see too many moms who do what works for them without making the focus their kids' safety. I strongly believe that recommendations are there for a reason (especially SIDS recommendations) and I'll never understand moms who play with fire and take risks anyway... Like, I heard of three cases of babies who died of SIDS last year because they were sleeping on their tummy at 3 months (women on other forums who either lost their baby or have a family member or friend who did).

Sure, it might be easier on the parents to put them down that way so they don't cry, but the whole 'you have to do what works for your family' is just a way of getting people to find excuses to get over their guilt... I'd rather have a crying baby than a dead one... but apparently it's not the case of everyone (not from what I've seen here, but on other boards some people make me want to smack them!).
