I have a 6 month old Shih Tsu. Since we've brought her home, she'll start wheezing out of the blue. She usually does it once or twice at a time, 2 or so times a week. It doesn't seem to bother her, she still walks around and jumps on the couch while it's happening. I've taken her to the vet and he said that her air passages are fine, it might just be something as simple as allergies. All I really want to know is if there is anything I can to do help her when it happens. It usually only lasts a minute or two. My sister has told me that rubbing their throat while it's happening helps but my husband and I agree that it seems like that would be more uncomfortable for the dog. If anyone knows anything to help, I would really appreciate you letting me know. :)

I have a Lhasa that does the same thing from time to time, and also gets post-nasal drip that will throw her into choking fits sometimes; scared the hell out of us at first. My vet told me it'd be ok to give her a tiny bit of liquid Benadryl for children if it lasts more than a day.
