So here's a different thread I don't think has been done before. A lot of people have a piece of jewelry that has some symbolism behind it, what's yours?

I just got mine. It's my college class ring, which is a big deal for Aggies. I'm still getting used to it but it's still pretty cool. It basically symbolizes 95 hours of completed credit at Texas A&M but it's more than that, such as the times and tribulations both in and out of the classroom that you've had here. You can immediately recognize a fellow Ag by their ring, they're all the same with just one difference: your class year. They all have stories behind them and most people are glad to recount their time here. Don't know if I explained that well but that's the gist of it. Only other piece I wear is my watch, which uh, tells time? Gets me to class on time so I could complete those 95 hours? I don't know, it's just a watch. $14 at Wal-Mart lol.

The only piece of jewelry my father wears is his watch (which is just a watch like mine) and his wedding band, which is obvious the significance behind it.

My sister wears her wedding ring. She inherited our grandmother's wedding ring which was going to be her wedding ring but instead she set the diamond in a necklace and wore that instead, with the intent to have the diamond set into her wedding ring whenever she got one. Then her boyfriend (at the time, husband now) stole the necklace and had the diamond set into her wedding band which he used to propose to her.

But the point in telling you that back story leads up to my mother. She wears her wedding ring as well but her newest addition is the wedding band of her mother (our grandmother), but without the diamond. Instead my sister took the ring part that she wasn't using and set my mom's birth stone into the socket where the diamond once was and my sister and BIL presented that to my mother on the night of their wedding rehearsal.

So, what's your symbolism?

I have my pentagram necklace, which is a symbol for my religion, Wicca, and then my engagement ring, which is a symbol of... my engagement. lol
I also wear a silver hoop in the cartilage in my ear, but that's only because its too hard to take out and then get in when I want it back. :)

My Dad gave me his wedding ring (it was to small for him) when I was 10 it's a plain gold band and even though I misplaced it constantly as a kid I never lost it. A miracle for me and now I wear it constantly. It's the only piece of jewelry, outside of my body piercings which I can't remove, that I wear constantly.

15 years after they were married my Mom replaced her tiny diamond ring with a gorgeous and huge stone that she bought herself from one of her clients. It's not a symbol of their marriage so much as it is a representation of her hard work and success in this country.

My Dad doesn't wear a wedding ring anymore or any jewelry for that matter but I doubt he needs it. He knows whats important to him and he lives for his family.

I have never been into jewelry, but have the usual diamond wedding rings...obvious symbol there, even tho I haven't worn them in years. (the engagement ring is set so high that I find it awkward in daily life. lol) but...I have my mom's original wedding band. it's worn so thin in one place that I have to be careful just handling it. it is just something I treasure because it was hers soooooo many years ago. (which isn't all that interesting, but meaningful to me) :) I'm thinking of taking my engagement diamond and having it put in a necklace for my daughter. something to pass down while I'm still alive and kicking. LOL my son will get my other most treasured piece....his dad's high school ring, which I've had since I was 15 yrs. old. not worth anything, but a HUGE sentimental value.

I wear a pentagram necklace which is a symbol of my religion. Its special because 3 years ago my sister gave it to me. She knew how much I wanted a nice one and not just a cheap one. Its probley the most expensive and thought out gift she ever gave me. A year later I bought her a braclet with a pentagram charm that she wears to this day.

Other than that I don't really wear any jewelry.

THe appearing and disapearing coin. I found it in my bead box when i was working on "winter". I didn't put it there. It is dated 1895 and is from Gautemala, small. a 1/2 Real and is silver. Has a small hole in it. For 30 years now i have either worn it, or lost, it or misplaced it, but it has always come back, amazingly so, now i wear it on a chain around my neck. Why it is a comfort i can't explain.

A silver ring a veteran that i helped to the VA and watched his dog while he attended his appt gave me is my one of my two rings. The other is a small opal i had set for Hyia when she was a baby, her magic ring.

I have Jim's watch i bought for him on our second Christmas together. but it needs a battery and i haven't worn it in a long time.

I have a morracan prayer book pendant that Kelly gave me when her husband passed, it was his. I wear on special events. And finally a small glass piece that was made by a man that was a blown glass artist. IT looks like lightning hitting water, with a hissss and bubbles. THat sums up my jewelry box! OH! i forgot the small curled animals i am making for my gallery. They have a hole run through so they can be worn on a cord, i have kept the one dog for myself. THat's it.

I mostly wear Navaho, Hopi and Zuni pieces because I do prefer to wear jewelry that means something. The pieces I wear the most are the Navaho sun necklace (that most people mistake for a cross) and a bear fetish.

I wear a sterling ring with Celtic knotwork and an amber stone (who I am) and a moonstone pendant and a hand set raw amethyst crystal on a handmade sterling Navaho chain, in token and acknowledgement of . . . well, let's just say a Seeing graciously granted to me. Pix would understand. :)

And a Viking North Star rune.

I have a sterling silver cross necklace that I never remove, except for xrays and such and my wedding band, also with a cross etched in it. The cross necklace is a symbol of my faith and my wedding band is a symbol of my commitment to my wife, bound by my faith.

Other than my watch, which is just a watch (although it's pretty cool), that's all the jewelry I wear.

I have my dad's class ring :)

Also I have a white gold diamond ring that my grandpa bought me three years ago for christmas. It's such a shock to get something so nice from grandpa, becuase he is a penny pincher, lol. Grandpa wont spend money unless he absolutly has to, and even then he will spend as little as possible (even though he is very well off).
I love my ring, but sadly, I cant wear it becuase, sadly, I gained ALOT of weight when I was pregnant so my fingers are a bit bigger. But I refuse to have the ring sized... I will losethe weight and be able to wear my ring again, I swear!

Just a wedding ring...I don't regularly wear anything else overly significant. Not a jewelry hound....tho I do like estate and vintage/antique pieces. My wedding ring is circa 1930. They made prettier things back in the day.

I have so much jewlery ........but hardly wear it . My wedding ring had to be cut off my finger when I dislocated it . My engagement ring was remade with some family diamonds and was really not me . The Christmas before Tom died , we took my original diamond and had it set ( free flow ) in a gold band .( It was a pre-50th gift too ) So I only wear it and a gold and silver ring I bought myself on my right hand . When I do go out ....I dig out the family jewels !

I've got another good one...

my grandma was never big on jewelery. She wears her mother's wedding ring sometimes, and one necklace.

My grandfather's favorite stone was Ruby. it was his birthstone and he was more or less obsessed with it. He bought all his "girls" ruby jewelery because he liked it so much.
He bought my grandmother a necklace with rubies on it. She didn't really like it too much, but kept it and pretended she liked it because it was nice and he was so proud of it.

A few months after he gave it to her, my family moved into this house we're in now. My grandma came down to help us pack and whatnot, and ended up loosing the necklace in the clutter of moving. After we unpacked everything, they determined she had left it somewhere in our old house.

Four years later, my grandfather passed away suddenly. He was only 64. My grandmother was naturally, very upset. It was unexpected and they were, to that day, madly in love. (less than a year later would have been their 50th, yes they were married at 15).

After the funeral, we returned to my grandparents house (i was six at the time). My aunts and my grandmother were in my grandparents bedroom, cleaning out her closet, trying to get their minds off everything. They cleared off the entire top shelf except one box of pictures. When my grandma dragged the box off the shelf, and envelope fell to the floor. It was a nice envelope, sealed up, and my grandmother had no idea what it could be, so she opened it.

Inside was the ruby necklace. She wears it to this day, 12 years later.

I have a three stone diamond ring that I got for my 16th birthday. That's the only thing I wear with any sort of regularity. I think it took me until I was 20 to stop consistently losing the stupid thing. I have some cute little necklaces that I got as gifts from either my parents or Ryan on random occasions. Those I just have hanging around my room. I'm not much of a jewelry person, and I'm terrible at keeping track of it.

I have my engagement ring and wedding band. I take them off at night and when I shower, but they are symbols of the loving relationship I have with my hubby, so they are very special.

I also have a ring that was made for me for HS graduation, it was the diamond from my grandmother's engagement ring and has birthstones around the diamond to symbolize my grandparents and myself. I only wear this on special occasions (wore it for my HS grad, Undegrad grad and will do so for my Graduate grad) it makes me feel like they are there with me.

I also have a special necklace from a friend that I received a few years ago and my hubby bought me a necklace not too long ago. So, I guess everything is special in one way or another. :) I just don't have jewelry "just because". :)

This piece means a great deal to me . . . I can't really explain it, it just does

It's a signed Navaho piece. There is a great deal of balance in it, and sets of two matching elements that make one whole and balance each other perfectly.
