Friendliest I'd say would be a Lab or Golden - from a respectible breeder naturally.

easiest to train.. hmm that depends on the dog. Every breed has their "stubborn ones" and their "eager to please ones". But in general I know that poodles are known to be the smartest breed.
Ease of training really depends on the amount of time you'd like to put into your dog.
Ex. Riot is a very easy to train dog - BUT hes stubborn and you have to know exactly HOW to get him TO work.

Really depends on the dog's personality and how much time you spend training, socializing, and loving your dog. But Goldens are usally know to be very friendly and easy to train.

It all depends on the individual dog of course, but as a whole I'd have to say:
Friendliest: Golden or Lab
Easiest to train: Any breed of herding dog

herding breeds are easy to train..........if you know what you're doing. If not, you'll have tons of undirected energy and intelligence creating havoc for you and your family.

I honestly don't believe for one second that one breed is smarter than another. I've been around dogs my whole life (havn't lived one day without them) and I must say that I have met both "smart" and "dumb" dogs from different breeds.

I think it depends on these things:
Your Personality.
The Dogs Personality.
Training Method being used.
Your knowledge of doggy behavior.
Your consistancy!!

Research different breeds, and decide which one matches you the most. If you go to train a dog who is extremely hyper, thinks quickly, and over thinks alot in general, but you are the kind of person who is lazy and pretty inconsistant with what words/signals you use to get your dog to listen-- then you will have a problem!

Make sense? I tried to explain it how I see it, sorry if it came across as a bit out there or confusing-- I keep getting side tracked!!

In my experience, a mutt. ;)

Ditto.. Buddy is by far, the smartest dog I have ever had and he is so nice and gentle and LOVES kids. Eerrr, sometimes he is too smart for our own good!

There are so many choices and many more breeds, including mutts (depending on what's behind them) which fit that criteria. What first pops into my head though is *Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Poodle.

Nuh-uuhhh . . . Not ANY herding breed, lol! With some it's not about training at all - it's coming to a meeting of the minds. And sometimes they WILL agree to disagree  ;)

I've trained every herding breed recognized by AKC at one point or another....I was just stating that as a whole they are very intelligent and very eager to please. I know some of them are stubborn and have issues, but that's why I said "it depends on the individual dog."

Friendliest...Depends on socialization and the over all breed temperment.
Easiest to train...Depends on that particular dog and the training methods used to train it.

I think Renee was referring to the fact that her Filas are recognized as a herding breed and they are much different to train than the Border Collie, Sheltie or Aussies.

Friendliness depends mostly on how they were socialized. I've met more than my fair share of skittitsh and snappy Labs and Goldens, though most are crazy about people. Emphasis on the crazy... ;)

Easiest to train is also subjective to how much time and effort one puts into a dog and the methods used. But generally, breeds that are more focused on people, like the BC or Golden, are more willing to please and that makes them easier for most people to train.

Yup, Zoom . . . I doubt there will ever be a Fila Obedience Champion, lol! AKC is just so far off my radar . . . But even with an Aussie and all the GSDs I've had over the years, I've found that they tend to want to be a part of the decision making process rather than just following commands.

friendliest overall (including into old age) I would say a lab or golden.
Studies have put poodle high on the list for the most easily trainable, but i personally do not have enough experience to know.

Misti ... I'm with you !! The poodles I know are smart enough to not listen to their owners .... large or small ( the dogs, that is ) ! Goldens and Labs WANT to please. Only bad breeding will bring in " issues ".... which is of any breed.
