My husband has decided that Innova Evo is way too expensive, so I've been trying to find something more economical. I came across Natural Balance, venison and brown rice. Here are the ingredients:

Venison, Whole Grain Brown Rice, Rice Flour, Venison Meal, Rice Bran, Canola Oil (preserved With Mixed Tocopherols And Citric Acid), Natural Flavor, Flaxseed Oil, Kelp Meal, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Chloride, Choline Chloride, L-lysine, Dl-methionine, Dicalcium Phosphate, Dried Parsley, Rosemary Extract, Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C), Vitamin E Supplement, Taurine, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Potassium Iodide, Thiamine Mononitrate, Manganese Proteinate, Zinc Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid (Vitamin B-9).

I don't know what all those chemicals are. Somebody help me out! ;)

Methionine is a sulfur-containing essential amino acid. DL-methionine is the free-flowing version used as a supplement when the natural food ingredients don't provide enough to meet nutritional requirements.

When you are comparing the cost of foods, please don't only look at the price tag on the bag. You need to figure out how many calories your dog needs per day and compare how long a given amount of food will last.

The NB Venison you listed is an allergy formulation I wouldn't recommend for a normal, healthy dog, and it also only contains 21% protein and 12% fat compared to 42/22 % respectively in the Evo.

The result could be that you might save a few dollars on a bag of food, but that bag isn't going to last you nearly as long because you have to feed a larger amount on a daily basis.

Food..

If you want a good food that’s not too expensive( about $20.00 for 20lbs.) take a look at Canidae. I have been feeding it for some time now and am very happy with it. My dog loves it.:)

I feed Natural Balance venison and brown rice to Zeus, who has food allergies. He has done quite well on it and is very healthy. I've noticed a big improvement in his skin and coat since switching from Eukanuba. He actually eats much less than he did on Eukanuba. Zeus goes through one 30-lb bag every 6-8 weeks (he free feeds). Maybe he's just a light eater? Who knows.

I know there are better foods out there, but Natural Balance is the best one available in my area.
