dober, there are a few RARE "good" breeding programs still trying to develop on the origional "idea" of the australian labradoodle.

they have an "idea" of what they want from the dog, which is essentially a none shedding lab.

these "good" breeders "foundation" dogs for first gen (labs and poodles) come form good lines ect...
of course there offspring cannot be shown however these good breeders try to best choose future breeding stock based on the pups that have the best personality and proper coat type...
these good breeders will take all the precautions of a good purebred breeder (asside from showing in confirmation of course) including health testing.

these breeders also dont charge thousands for their dogs, are their for the puppies they produce through their entie life, contract ect...
these breeders are however VERY VERY rare.

and there are many "desighner" mixes out there that i dont belive a single "ethical" breeder exists.

Geeze Tessa, only one dog left in my home that you haven't called UGLY!!!:yikes:

I don't care what breed or mix you're talking about, being offensive is just plain uncalled for.

I hope that when your baby is born Tessa, people are a little kinder with their comments towards you and yours. We all tend to be a bit protective of the ones that we love...even if a little biased.;)
I have the right to my opinion, and that is that. The person that is control of your feelings is yourself. If you get offended, that is something YOU have control over, not me. I was not being offensive, just expressing an opinion, and I HAVE already explained that the ones here ARE the non-attractive looking ones. I HAVE said there are some cute ones, and explained that that comment was made several years ago upon seeing the badly bred ones around here. So please don't get your panties ina bunch. I'd expect more self control than that to get all anal towards me. After all, many breeds have to be the potential to be ugly when so poorly bred (like our first cocker spaniel.. far from standard and one strange looking cocker!)

Lol. Besides, I have trained a pekingese in agility. I do not think they are cute. I loved her dearly anyway, and even nicknamed her "Shovel-face". :D NO need to be defensive or offended, as I never ever personally called any labradoodle or other dog on chaz ugly. In fact, any labradoodle I've seen pictures on chaz have been cute.

Tessa, we like Dr2little and all of her dogs here, and that's that. Yes you may have your opinions, even rude ones, but of course, you have to understand that how you express them will affect how we all think of you. Someday you will, I hope, acquire the maturity to express your opinions more politely than the above.

It's the word that irritated me.... I truly despise the word ugly.... If you had said "I don't find attractive" "Not easy on the eyes" etc etc I doubt it would have stung as much....To call a breed UGLY when people here own them stings.... Ugly is a nasty, harsh word imo and has caused a ton of hurt in many ways over the years.. It is bound to cause a defensive response from those who own the breed called UGLY, even if you are not calling a specific dog that....

I have never once ever called another person's dog ugly here. I've never called Dr's dog ugly. In fact, her labradoodle is well bred and I do find hers very cute. Just as I'd never tell someone their baby is ugly.. it doesn't mean ugly babies don't exist. And there are ugly dogs out there as well, Lol. And in this case, it was the poorly bred labradoodles that are bred around here - and as I've already said at least three times now, that was said several years ago and it was in response to seeing a very poorly bred, unattractive labradoodle.

ETA: I've had my cocker spaniel called ugly by many people. A lot of people really have an agenda against them for being "aggressive", and will say all sorts of things bad about the breed in general. Maybe I just can brush it off and am not as sensitive about that, but I know in MY eyes my dog is gorgeous and don't really allow myself to be bothered when people think my dog is ugly. *shrugs* And when I had my peke that I was training in agility,.. got plenty of ugly comments. Never once did I feel offended. So, to each their own, but I feel it is best to be in control of your own feelings and sometimes just let opinions be brushed off.

I know you have not, but you don't understand, when you call XBreed UGLY, and someone owns that breed, it stings.... It's like if I said I think people called Tessa are ugly... I may not have said YOU were ugly, but I would think it would sting anyways.... and you DID call two of her "breeds" ugly... Though not HER exact dog.....

So what you're saying is that it's ok to be insensitive to other's feelings as long as you can state your opinion. Oh, and it's THEIR fault if they are offended by your opinion.

I just wanted to clarify.

I'll add my opinion on "doodles" as well ;)

In this area, most of the mixes you'll see are poorly bred with questionable temperaments. So naturally, my experience has taught me that good breeders are few and far between. Do I dislike them? No. But they are not for me as a person. There are quite a few breeds that would never fit with my plans or lifestyle, but it doesn't mean I think anything less of them or think they are ugly.

Honest question
And just how can there be "well-bred" ones? I doubt each Lab and Golden before they came together came from health tested parents from generations of longevity and titles and careful breeding programs.

the original labs, goldens and poodles were probably not the best quality. However I'm not going discuss in favour because I still disagree with breeding designer dogs, labradoodles included. However 'well bred' meaning the coat is as it's supposed to be, low shedding and not a wirey mess.

That is not true... In the cases of many good breeders YES they started out with health tested and good parents.

How is a multigeneration doodle any different than anybreed. I guess my JRTs are a designer breed... as are most breeds of dogs.

yoshi is pretty much the opposite of what most people want when they get a labradoodle *physically* she sheds sooooo much, it's way less than when i first got her but i gave up wearing darker solid colors because of her. i have lint rollers and fur grabbers everywhere. she's also not really as rounded/thick as a lot of the others i have met she has a VERY poodle shape that you can really see when she's wet.

she's super willing to please so training has always been very easy.

i don't think she's ugly :)
