pretty much

Pretty much a backyard breeder can be someone who decides "oh my yorkie is cute lets mate her with a mini poodle so we can sell yorkie-poos for a good buck" or even "I'm going to breed my beagle to the neighbors beagle--but not do health testing, read books about it, think about both dogs behaviors ect".

Responsible breeders are professionals who know what they are doing--offer health garauntees, have done all research on both mother and father who have been reasearched as far as health, personality ect and probably have titles in different categories, they make the buyers do interviews and sign contracts, they do everything possible to make sure the young pups have all vaccinations and are sold at a decent age (not 6-7 weeks) ect...that's just some of the things I have gathered.......

ok thanx a lot

BTW - i dont think id ever breed my dog(mostly because hes neutered but you get the point) but if i did i wouldnt want to give the puppies away free cause then theres a better chance the person will abuse it,sell it for money after adopted, etc.would that be considered a BYB???

no

Obviously breeders charge for their puppies--to cover part of the health testing, veterinary care ect that they have incurred and to ensure the dogs get a good home.

Sometimes someone irresponsible will have an 'accidental' litter--their dog gets out accidentally and gets pregnant--they let her have the puppies (I believe most on here would recommend immediate sterilization or abortion when it is discovered) and the charge a small fee say $100 for the puppies to make sure they are going to a better home and they are more considered an irresponsible person with an accidental litter....not a BYB--but this is usually not the case.

People who are BYB's breed on purpose. They simply do not take the time for all the education to breed properly. Some simply do not understand that you can't just breed one purebred to another and be considered responsible--some know they are in it for just the money.....

Generally responsible breeders have read tons of books, make little to no money on puppies (the money made on them has already been spent on testing/vets ect), they are in it for the betterment of the breed. Most have been doing it for years and have well established references and applications for applying for a puppy.
