We just had our house appraised last week and I was pretty surprised. We gained $150K in equity in a year.. Of course I did do a lot of work to it, but still I think it's crazy..

Just curious as to how the house prices are in everyones area...

I watched a show on HGTV the other night about what $250K would buy you in different places throughout the country...

I thought we could all post a pic of what it would get you in your area to compare the differences... I just use realtor.com to find homes..

Here is what $250,000 will get you in Harrisonburg, Virginia...

Here's $250,000 in Washington DC... not far from here..

Here is $250,000 in Flower Mound Texas (We were looking at this house because I had a job offer in Dallas)

It is soo funny, to see these things.

The economy is so different around the country.

You could be poor in one state, middle class in another, and rich somewhere else.

Or I could spend 35k on 3 acres with septic, water, electric and build my own house for around $35 a square food.
Soooo I could have a house with 4000 square feet however I want it
For 175k.
I think I will build my own house thank you very much! Much lower payments if I sell the one I am in and outright buy the lot and pay for 90% of the materials and have some left over for new furnature!!!
Helps that Jim is a Gen contractor.

HOLY! Zoom, Jess, I wanna live where you live!

yeah I agree!!.. it seems you guys are in the same boat as the people that live in Flower Mound... Some of these houses you guys are posting would bring $500K+ in our neighborhood. The market sucks for buyers around here..

You could probably get a small townhouse or apartment for $250 000 where I am. Housing is very expensive right now.

Geeeezzz ... can I move my house out of state..!!?? I bought 9 years ago from owner for $96,000 and it's now appraised for $120,000. Yes, it was built in 1957 but I feel houses were better built then, Looking at some of the other houses and areas....it would easily bring $180 -$200 . It sure is a buyer's market !! Both daughters now own 4 houses !!! Their's not selling. !
