I wish I had a car that could switch. I like auto for in-town driving, but also love driving manual when I can. I used to steal Dan's pickup whenever I could because it was a stick shift.

My Dad made all us kids learn on a standard. I made my kids learn on a standard too. LOL. I liked them best when I was younger and they were good in the snow. However, as I got older, I preferred an automatic. It's just so easy. Your left leg doesn't get tired in excessive stop/go traffic. You can multi-task better. LOL. It's just easy.

Yes, I drove a loaner car from the Subaru dealer and that was a car which would do both. They didn't tell me about it and I couldn't figure out why the engine was racing and sounded like it wasn't changing gears. ROFLOL. I hope I didn't ruin their car. Of course, they ruined mine by putting in a crappy head gasket which blew, not only once, but multiple times. That's another story.

I hate driving automatics-everytime my dumb butt forgets only one foot and slams on the break with my left foot giving everyone in the car whiplash-really sucks when I am the designated driver in someone elses car-but at least its someone elses car:eek:

Standard, saves on brakes too because in alot of situations rather than lightly using the breaks you can downshift

Yeah, but the transmission then, gets more wear and transmissions are vastly more expensive to repair than brakes. LOL.

Manual all the way. I drive an automatic and hate it. I'm getting a car with a manual as soon as I possibly can.

BTW, those transmissions that can do "both" are a sad excuse, they're still an automatic transmission, you can just select the gear. 90% of the fun of a manual is the clutch :)

The only cars that have paddles but are true manuals are a few BMWs, the new M5, M3, and Z4, Ferraris, and Maseratis

I like standard for two reasons....

1. I feel more apart of the driving process

2. Where I live the punks who steal cars don't know how to drive stick...so I am less likely to get my car stolen.

I prefer an auto cuz it is easier to multi-task too! lol, I am usually eating something on the way to class or opening my bottle of water, etc. Plus in standards, if I have to stop on a hill, whoever is behind me won't be happy for having to wait for me having to restart the car 3 times and then finally spin out to get going...lol
