We are having a spell of rainy weather here in South Dakota and my puppy is driving us crazy because he's not getting his normal exercise. I've started taking him for walks every morning, which he loves, but we live in a new construction development so when it rains he gets really muddy and I just don't have the energy to clean him up today. I tried playing fetch with him in the backyard but after about 2 throws he decides it is more fun to growl and try to keep me from getting the ball. He is not interested in any of the toys he has in the house, he just keeps chewing on me and pulling things off the table and counters in the kitchen. Anyone have any ideas for how to keep my puppy occupied?

Something that could help is to exercise your puppy's brain as well as his body. Maybe teach him some fun new tricks on days when you can't get outside.

You could also give him something to do, like stuff a Kong with something yummy and freeze it, or put one of his meals inside of a Buster Cube (or something similar).

You have a lab, not only do dogs needs exercise, but a lab REALLY NEEDS exercise.

Take him out to get muddy and clean him up when you get back.

What's worse, an overly active dog because he is not being stimulated or a muddy dog that can be simply hosed off so that ALL are happy?

I would go with the second. ;)
