i thought i wanted a bc pup from a breeder. i thought that's what my heart was set on.

so what the heck am i doing trolling petfinder multiple times a day looking at bullies and mixed breed dogs? what the heck was i doing at the shelter this morning looking at a dog?

i don't know what i want.

there are pros and cons to each, i know, but how the heck do i figure out what the right answer is for me??

(this is the dog i went to see. he didn't really do it for me in person, though he's freaking gorgeous.)

(i curse luce's inability to tolerate other females, because this dog and this dog were both to die for.)

Oh, well you are melting everyone else's hearts first of all and then you are asking us to tell you to get the first dog you posted, what a cutie! :)

if i were just looking for strictly a pet dog, i'd have been all over henry, the little black pit/shar pei mix who isn't on petfinder. he had face wrinkles suggestive of shar pei, his tail was very shar pei, he had the coat of a pit bull and the ears of a pit bull. he was pretty small, VERY friendly, and i adored him.

but i don't know that he would have been such a hot sport prospect, and he was older than what i'm looking for (as was macco- i want a dog who is still pup and he was 3). if i'm going to give up the akc venue for a mixed breed dog, it's gotta be magic.

Wow tough choice, I like all 3, maybe the brown pit bull mix, but then I just going on looks not living with the dog, so maybe spend some time with each one and see how and if they could adjust to your family and dogs. Good luck

Since there is still a lot of rural area down here and quite a number of dairy farms, BCs are still pretty common. When I worked in Hammond, it seemed like every other dog coming into the shelter was a BC. It just so happens that when you don't have leash laws plus a lot of farmers/ranchers who use the dogs and the dogs run free added to the fact that development is encroaching uppon their land, it makes for a lot of these dogs getting caught & ending up at the shelters.

But still, a BC/'pit bull' cross? It's the best of both worlds. :lol-sign:

Macco's definately adoreable.... such long legs! But you definately have to go more by personality than looks, so if he didn't do it for you you made a smart decision to walk away.

There are just so many factors that go into choosing the right dog - personality, what you want to do with them (sport, conformation, pet, therapy, etc.), size, energy level, grooming requirements, age, and on and on...... It's so hard to walk away from a dog just because he doesn't meet one of your requirements, but as you know that's what you have to do if you're looking for something specific.

If you really want a show dog, maybe now that you've been looking at shelters and stuff you should balance that out by researching some breeders or watching a dog show online, to remind yourself why it's important to you.

Ok, now I so want to go steal that white female pittie with those big upright ears.

I dunno. Something about those white ones that get me.

Petfinder is addicting. I've spent many hours there looking for I dont know what, but I was looking. LOL.

Elegy, I would trust Miakoda to pick out a dog for me ;) A Pittie/BC cross . . . talk about a potential agility STAR!

Red . . . are you trying to tell us you want to give Mikey to one of us? :rofl1:

Off topic, but I just wanted Red to know that when Mikey's picture loaded Aurelia shrieked "CARL!" at the top of her lungs.

red that looks neither like a border collie nor a bulldog :D

i've been researching bc breeders for awhile now, have found some that i'm interested in, and haven't contacted any of them because i'm a) afraid of rejection b) afraid of commitment, c) unsure that i want to give a bunch of my hard-earned money to somebody for a dog who may or may not be any better or worse than one i could go pick up off death row at the pound. yeah, they've got health testing and titles behind them, but still i know there aren't any guarantees.

i was so frustrated with my bulldogs and enamored with the flowy intensity and awesomeness of the bcs i've seen working lately, but now i've got mushroom in agility and he's still the class clown, but he's so much fun. and now i'm less sure i want to move away from these crazy pit bulls.

maybe i need to start looking at quality bully breeders. gods but THEY are hard to find!

Hmmm, maybe you are afraid of change?
