What Started Out As A Prank...

... made me realize how ignorant some people really are.

I decided to call a few apartments this morning, joking around, and asked them if they accepted dogs. If they said yes, I was going ask if there was a limit. If any of them said no, I was going to tell them great, that I am very interested in their apartment and that I have 15 dogs. ;)

But the second call kinda put a damper on the fun when someone showed their breed ignorance.

A woman picks up and I say do you accept dogs, she says yes, BUT what breeds do you have. I said, "Oh, different breeds. A dachshund, and a pit bull." He goes, "Oh, we don't accept dogs that bite."

I said, "He doesn't bite..."

She says, "No matter, we do not accept any breed that is aggressive."

I said, "He's not aggressive!"

She says, "Doesn't matter, he's a pit bull. We do not accept them. Thank you."

Ugh. I fully understand many apartments have breed restrictions. Whatever. What angered me was the first two sentences... we don't accept dogs that bite, we don't accept dogs that are aggressive... and both of those sentences in reference to the fact that he was a pit bull.

Idiots.

Haha you should have replied with "he can't open his mouth to bite", and see what kind of potential shocked reaction you'd get.

FZ, we must have posted at the same time.

Still with that being said, their ignorance is blinding. :(

[Jerry Seinfeld voice] ...and what's the deal with pet rent? [/Jerry Sienfield voice]

I understand a pet deposit, which you get back if your pet doesn't cause that much damage. But why should your PET pay rent every month? Is it causing monthly damage? Is the normal "human" deposit not enough to cover normal wear and tear? You never get pet rent back.

Sorry, but pet rent really bothers me. It just seems like a scam to make pet owners pay more because they have no choice; they're not going to get rid of their pets to move in to a place they like.

I had a couple places turn me down because Sawyer is an Australian *Shepherd* and they couldn't get it through their thick skulls that they are totally different from German Shepherds, which were on their "agressive/do not allow" list.

Sorry FZC. I actually don't know of a single complex that allows pitbulls.

I don't know too many that allow pit bulls either. But to ask what I owned, to be told a pit bull, and then to be told, "Oh, we don't accept dogs that bite." I said, he doesn't bite, and then to be told, "Well, we still don't accept aggressive breeds..." Bitch. Ugh!

Not that I was looking for an apartment, but for those that are and own sweet pitties, it's a crying shame. It really is.
