If I'm not mistaken, part of the reason Willie Nelson "flouts the law" on this is in protest as he is active, along with Woody Harrelson, Frances McDormand, and a slew of others in the movement to legalize marijuana.

I have NO sympathy for him. None what so ever. He knows its illegal (rightly or wrongly) and he chose to did it anyways. He's a adult and knew the possible consequences, now he has to deal with them.

Willie Nelson? Weed?! No way!

And I've been hearing rumours about Cheech and Chong. All untrue I'm sure.

I still think it is completely ridiculous to arrest and OLD man for smoking weed. Leave him alone. And yes, on certain things, I think old people should be above the law.

But then you run into the mess of which laws?........and who gets to decide them?

I do believe you've mentioned 'older people' should be held to the same standard of political correctness as everyone else, even though they grew up in a time those ideas were not the norm or even accepted. But on actual LAW BREAKING you think they should be held to a different standard

I'm a fan of the guy's music, but I agree with those that say he dug his own grave on this one. It is a law; you don't get to decide if it applies to you, whether you are 16 or 60. Either follow it, or deal with the consequences.

He knew what he was doing ;) I'm sure he's not hurting at all by this.

but it is stupid that people are taking up places in jail cells for something so petty.

I'm just stunned by all this. I mean, Willie Nelson, of all people. Who EVER would have thought?

And no, I don't support law breaking, but it's just such a stupid law!

Many laws as certainly make bad men, as bad men make many laws. ~Walter Savage Landor, Imaginary Conversations

Bad laws are the worst sort of tyranny. ~Edmund Burke

Laws are like cobwebs, which may catch small flies, but let wasps and hornets break through. ~Jonathan Swift, A Critical Essay upon the Faculties of the Mind, 1707

Apparently no one's been paying attention to the observations of the wise for many centuries.
