What kind of dog collar do you use?

I originally tried a harness on my Corgie, but because she's short with a broad chest, she wasn't comfortable in it. I now use a nylon collar and lead. I have so many friends and each one is different in their choice of collars.

What kind of dog collar works best for you?

Sierra has 7 collars... I think. It's been a while since I've done a count and that's just a quick count in my head. Collars are simply for holding her tags, so I have fun with them and she has a little bit of everything. I do not include any of the various walking tools we've tried in that count.

Neon wears a regular nylon collar. Argon wears a Martinagale, because his head is smaller than his neck, and he fell out of his regular collar and ran across 5 lanes of traffic several times. I had only had him three days, too :yikes:. We tried a harness, but his skin is sensitive and he ended up chafed.

I have many flat collars for my dogs. I would like to get a buddy belt someday for Dekka. Have you tried the buddy belt if you were looking for a harness?

Dekka also has a halti for very close quartered trials.

Bandit has a normal flat buckle nylon collar and a harness that he wears when we go biking.

We have a bunch of collars here too ...

(Smooth) Collies:
For walking and obedience/rally training, thin leather martingales.
For agility, slip leads (so they run 'naked').
For around the house, loose flat buckle or rolled leather collars that they can slip out of if needed. (Rolled leather while being shown, flay nylon once finished and I don't care if there is a 'dent' where the collar goes). :p
For conformation shows, jewel link chains because I think they're elegant. ;)

(Rough) Collies - when I had them:
Nylon chokes for any activity (show, walking, training)
Thin rolled leather collars for around the house.

American Hairless puppy:
For walking and show training, thin cotton martingale collar/leash combo.
Around the house - no collar because she jumps and climbs. Don't want to hang her!

I've only used rolled oiled leather .
Do they smell? Caleb spent the summer playing in his pool, with the hose and occasionally swimming in the resevior. Despite cleaning with leather cleaner, his collar stinks to high heaven. I don't remember his rolled leather one smelling after spending the summer getting wet.

My dogs don't wear collars around the house! The only time they wear collars are when they are off the property.

But I do have some show chains for at shows... and some thin nylon collars for everything else... I also have a couple slip leads that I use frequently... love those!

Buzz has been wearing his Ella's Lead collar since he got it. It's very nice and has softened well. Bailey usually wears her Mendota DuraSoft collar. If we go out they both have martingales with their tags attached.

Walking with a flexi requires a harness, but I mostly use long lines and not leashes I have to hold (privilege of having lots of property to use, no leashes required).

He has a martinegale, and few plain nylon ones.

Although he hardly ever wears a collar. Only if we are going somw whwre a leash an collar combo is needed (such as pet store). He plays to much at the dog park, I dont want t keep a collar on im there, or out on a hike in case he gets caught. So 98% of the time h is naked lol

Victor wears an orange hunting one especially when there is snow on the ground. His jingle bell collar at Christmas. A relfective one if we are about at night.
Pepper has a red padded collar that I just got for her because the plastic latch which i will never ever use again broke.

Orson has a few flat leather collars and a couple flat nylon collars. Phoebe has about the same. Neither wear a collar unless we are leaving the premises.

Orson also has a prong collar for certain times/situations. I've tried a regular harness, the type of harness that prevents pulling, and even a gentle leader and they were all worthless with him.............so prong it is in certain instances.

Away from home, my dogs usually wear Martingale collars. In and around the house, they wear flat nylon or leather buckle/plastic snap collars or nothing at all. :)

Maddie doesn't wear a collar in the house usually. If she does it's a
Morgan collar or a beaded dog collar with no D ring.
On walks she wears a fleece dog harness or if it's super cold her coat harnss :)

Let's see....

Puppies are always started with flat nylon collars that they can grow out of and should we have a teething accident that ends up destroying a collar, doesn't break the bank.

Shye and River have their Paco Collars. Azure and Ransom are still in their last nylon puppy collars.

I also have a prong collar because teaching really driven dogs that I walk slower than they do and don't need to be pulled is sometimes.... a challenge.

For leash walks, Tokie wears a flat leather collar and the Chihuahuas wear little light weight harnesses. At home, no collars are worn, just for walks off the property. Hikes out in the woods, no collars or leashes, but I carry them in my pocket in case I need them for some reason.
