My new title (I start May 1st) will be "Network Architect". My focus will be on new clients and designing and/or re-engineering their computer networks and back office systems. I am really excited that I will get to "build" something new from time to time at this new gig.

Currently, I am a network administrator. I contract to EDS in support of the Pennsylvania Medicade (aka PROMISe<tm>) account. WORKING FOR A GOVERNMENT AGENCY SUCKS!!!!!!

Well.. I am currently deciding to go BACK to uni to study to be a social worker.. :) Just depends if I can afford it, as I already have one degree (zoology) and you don't get any funding if you are greedy and want two.

I know, I am a glutton for punishment :D

(do you have social workers in the us?!)

In september I start my animal management foundation degree for 2 years. I will then be taking a gap year and hope to do some conservation work in Scandinavia, with Casey off course ;) .
If I chose to I will then go back for a one year top up and get the BSc degree. After that any job with animals will suit me fine :D.

Well I am an Equine Genetisist, I trained to research con-gential joint, muscular and inherent diseases passed on through poor breeding. (Sounds impressive huh! lol!) And am currently unemployed due to the fact that everyone says "You're too qualified"
Have been doing a bit of work on the side for a friend who breeds Welsh ponies, researching into the likelyhood of achieving a specific coloured horse, given the background of both horses ancestry. Interesting stuff really, apparently there is money to be made in horse colour prediction, but it's a hobby for me!
Guess i'll go back to waiting tables and working behind a bar! lol! :D

Jules- We have a bloodhound, Daisy, here in NE Pennyslvania who is the first of her kind in the U.S. I forget what her title is, but she is owned/worked by a juvenile parole officer and she is trained as a drug sniffing dog as well as a S&R dog. He takes her to the houses when he does home checks, etc. on the people that he parols (don't know if that's right). My 4-H group has given over $1,000 dollars toward her training as they couldn't get any gov't/town funding b/c its a new program.
The best story that I have heard was when she was in a house searching for drugs, and she kept going to a closet and indicating that there were drugs in there. But when they looked, it was just dog food, and when they pulled her away, she just kept going back to it. Finally they found the drugs in the bottom of the dog food bag (thought that was clever). The best part is that Daisy is a rescue dog, who had been in a bad home before. They are now training her replacement, Willow. Just thought you might find that interesting.

Dizzy- Yup we have social workers here. That is one of the four potential careers that I am researching right now. If I did got to college to be a social worker, I would either want to work with homeless people or on the psychiatric floor of a hospital.

Bully-WOW, what is that?

Thanks to everybody else who replied

I have my first dog-walking gig on Saturday and I'm waiting to hear back from another lady about pet-sitting at the end of the month and I talked today with my eye doctor about doing some training with him.

So, it's getting there...still have a ways to go though. Money is an issue right now, so I don't have my website up yet, or my cards printed out because I don't have any money to buy the paper.
Zoom....try www.vistaprints.com. They have freebies all the time (you only pay for shipping)...and business cards are always on sale and they look really good! You can even upload your own design.
Congrats on your first "gigs"!

I will probably work in vet offices, boarding kennels, etc etc, until I feel I have gained enough experience, knowledge, and patience to become a trainer.
This is also what I am interested in doing.

Finish high school, finish first 4 years of college (probably 2 at a community college and 2 at a university) and then hopefully go to vet school.

Something less far-off: I may try to get a job at a vet clinic while I'm in school. If that is not an option, I'll most likely just wind up doing whatever I can find that pays the most. I figure that period of my life isn't going to be exactly joyful, anyway - so a crappy but good-paying job can't hurt.

Experience is golden, talk to a local trainer alot of them will help you with that, Any dog events and seminars help too.
