Some giant toasted insect, I think they were ants. A college friend from Colombia brought them back one time. Tasted fine, kind-of nutty, and yes, the legs get stuck in your teeth.

I think M&M's Mommy won this contest...lol Although I would say anyone who tries Mountain Oysters a close second...lol
LOL. Thanks Giny

oh I forgot to mention the pork brain, blood & intestines, beef intestine, raw duck blood, etc.. We can make lots of dish with those and they're all very good :)

Perhaps I've already thought of as an odd person on Chaz.. After this thread I run the risk of confirming it.. but oh well :p

BTW, what's the Mountain Oysters?

I'm in the same boat as you, M&M! My mother is Filipino. We've eaten a lot of the same stuff! Here's some of the weirder stuff I've eaten:

-ballut (fertilized, partially-developed duck embryos, straight from the egg).
-ant pupae
-dried crickets
-dinardaraan--pork stewed in it's own blood. One of my absolute favorite foods. *drool*
-menudo--soup of stomach and pig's feet
-German blood and tongue sausage on rye, with spicy mustard. Heavenly stuff.
-Fish eyeballs
-duck/chicken feet

Most of these things are actually very tasty. The only things on that list I don't really like are the crickets and ballut.

OOOHH.. How could I forgot my most favorite fruit ever: the DURIAN aka stinky fruit LOL
Try it if you dare.. but once you get past the fruit's offensive odor, you'll get hook to the heavenly creamy flesh - just like I did! Ahh..

I've had the fermented shark that Domestika was talking about. I also had whale when I was in Iceland. When we went to Paris I had escargot, which was sooooooooo good, as well as carpaccio and beef tar tar. Other than I have had turtle, gator, ostrich, elk, sushi etc.

what an adventurous group. usually i'm the strange one for eating dog (tough but good), cat (very tender & deliscious like pork) and an assortment of rodents not to mention grubs fresh from the rotting log. at least we know no one here will starve.

Wouldn't it be fun to have a Chaz get-together and try all these things !! I'll take pictures or hold the puke bag !! Yes , my Mom soaked the kidneys ,,,,but still stinky . Her jellied tongue really was awesome ! She prepared beautifully with all skin and veins removed . Add: really , I think that I've tasted everything from the sea , and most ground animals except rodents . ( Whoops , I have had squirrel ). Crickets my only bugs and again NO Prairie Oysters !!!!!

OMG, DURIAN! Ugh! I can't get past the smell. I've tried. *shudder* It's the most rancid, foul odor I've ever come across. Even worse than rotting meat.

When you say you ate Cat... do you mean like "here kitty kitty" kind of cat?
yup that's the kind... lol. I didn't like it much, but I think it's the fact that I couldn't get past the fact that it was cat.

I forgot to mention I have actually tried horse before, but I didn't know what it was until after I had it and I was pretty upset that I had eaten it. It didn't taste bad though.

Also... I've had smoked oysters which is absolutely blech and I've had a blood sausage spread on crackers. I gotta think... I know there's more that I've tried.

Oh and I get to try squirrel soon

haha... just checking.

i like smoked oysters.

I went to a tapas restaurant the other day and got this sampler platter... there was blood sausage on the plate... I cut into it and about puked, lets just say it never made it anywhere close to my lips. BLECH.

I hate blood sausage if it's not made right. I hate sausage usually in general. But real blood sausage made right is actually really good.

Psst.. if you can't stand the smell of the fresh one, freeze it first.. then thaw it a little bit and eat it when it's still hard. better than any ice-cream I've had so far in my life!

It's funny how my house is never without durian (that shows you how much I really, truly love it!). I'd buy a fresh one, eat half right away and freeze the other half... when it's gone, I'd buy a new one.. and so on.

Where do you get Durian???

I've eaten frogs legs, which are really quite delicious. That's about the weirdest...not because i'm afraid to try things, i just never get the chance.

I've had the raw quail eggs with salmon eggs . . . I thought it was pretty good.

Kitfo: Ethiopean steak tartare, now actually one of my favorite foods

Daikon Radish curry . . . really strange, but not bad
