Bareback? You have got to be kidding me. Take my crop, take my reins, take it all but leave me my stirrups. The few times I rode as a kid, it was bareback and I have these (possibly glossy) memories of being she-who-is-one-with-the-horse. Now if my instructor has me ride without stirrups a couple times around the ring, I'm sliding all over the place. I swear to God, I am going to work on that just as soon as my flipping barn gets back in gear (holidays wreaking havoc with lesson schedule, blehhh.)

As to which saddle - English. The western saddle is just too huge, I feel like I'm riding a sofa (and I know what I'm talking about, I spent quality time pretending our couch was a horse when I was a kid).

Western with a Todd Sloan or Donowho saddle under me!!! During the week, we work cattle and the difficul terrain requires one to have a good seat along with a horse that has ALOT of cow sense, therefore, Quarter Horses and western style is the only route to go!!!
