Ok, recently I have come in contact with APR (American Pet Registry). Lots of people have been turning their noses up at it and I don't know why. I heard that they support pet stores but that is it. I'm just confused now on if they are reliable or crap. Should someone be worried if they bought the dog strictly for a pet?

why should someone buying a dog strictly for a pet have to get lesser quality dogs?

why should someone who only wants a pet have a dog that is structurally incorrect, or of poor temperament, or unhealthy?

the fact is, we dont need to breed for pets. breeding for the betterment of the breed WILL produce pets, we shouldnt allow people the excuse of breeding just for pets.

as pet owners, we deserve just as good a dog as the BIS dog from westminster.

that being said, yes its a pet store registry for their dogs - its not reliable or reputable as far as i know.

well I was just asking because my friend, who is COMPLETELY in love with Lily, went out today and bought her own standard poodle. He is registered with the APRI. So was Lily's parent's but she is still healthy with a fine temperment. This was before I knew anything about different registries though. I don't want to breed her, or show her though (because of the registry she is registered with). My friend plans to have her dog be neutered and a pet as well but we were just curious. The breeder we got Lily from said that is the papers she was given when she bought the parents but her other standards are AKC registered though. I don't know where my friend got her puppy from though I didn't talk to her for that long just saw her at the park with her kids walking around a little standard poodle puppy and we got to talking about where he was registered with and then I said Lily was registered there too.

Be Carefull Hon.If they used a Bad registry its not likely the did any health testing for the breed either. These health issues likely wont manifest themselves until at least 1 year of age.I hope you dont have any problems though. Now you know better for next time.

The people we got her from are friends of my husband so we got to see proof that they did have tests. Also there are two other people from my husband's work that have bought puppies from the same parents and those dogs are now three and no health problems. We have the 2 year health guarantee on her though.

I don't think AKC will register any litter or dog from an " incest " breeding....this could be a factor as to going the APRI way. Just be happy the dogs are happy and healthy. I personally feel that any breeder who has AKC dogs, will register litters that way out of pride.

the dogs were already registered with APRI when she got them. She was in love with both the parents though and didn't care where they were registered with. I'm am not sure why they are not registered with AKC but Lily has many AKC champions in her bloodlines though. The breeder never breeds her AKC dogs with the APRI dogs though. Like I said she is happy and healthy and we do have a health guarantee on her. We had a good reference before choosing her and those dogs look wonderful and have such good temperments. So I guess I can be happy for that then. I will know better for next time though and will stick with AKC.

Hey, the main thing is that she got a great pup !! If you adopt a child from China, they aren't American , but you love them just the same !

Julie, you know the health tests were done because you asked and saw the paper work. You love Lily and she is a pet. A piece of paper does not make her a better dog, or an inferior dog, it is simply a piece of paper. THat paper only matters if you are showing or breeding. Both of which you have no interest. So who cares love Lily and she will love you back. She is a beautiful dog too.

I agree, it doesn't matter what she is registered with, she's healthy and beautiful and it's what matters.

Lily has a great pedigree with some nice dogs behind her. You can have all the registration in the world and still have a horribly bred, bad speciman of the breed. Papers are only as good as the people breeding and doing the registering. And Lily could still get an ILP number with AKC if she wanted to do agility or obedience with her.

the akc will definitely register any litter as long as it is proven to be purebred. they dont care who is bred to who.
