I swear almost everyone that has a fullsize truck around here in Iowa shares a brain with a mouse or something.

Its snowing pretty bad out right now, some guy just came knocking on the door, got his truck stuck on the road.

Not really suprising due to the ice, but it just funny how he got stuck and then got it even worse.

He was driving up the road in 2 wheel drive and loses traction and just spins his wheels until the truck stops, then he put it in 4 wheel drive and keeps it floored. Now he is wondering why I won't even attemp to pull him out.

Now mind you it's not like I'm just saying no and thats it. He's going to sleep on the couch in the living room tonight, then in the morning I will get his truck out. I already looked at it and there is no way my Tracker will ever pull it out, but once I get the tractor going in the morning to move snow, i can pul it out no problem. If I try tonight I will more then likely end up with a stuck tractor and a stuck truck on the road.

It will be fun in the morning.

No snow here but the fullsize trucks with lifts feel the need to go down the freeway at 90mph... their tires screaming.

eh, Brenna's fine with him, when she normally stays away from most people. So he's good. I'd rather have him somewhere where its warm then in his truck.

When I had my full sized blazer (the old K5 model from the early 80's) I always remembered one thing. 4WD helps you get going. It does not help you stop. You've got the same basic foot print as a car but with about 3 to 4 times the weight. What makes you think you're going to stop on a dime? They are all the time screaming up and down my street around here. I live across from the middle school in my community and all night when it snows people are out in their trucks and cars doing donuts in the parking lot. One day I watched a 92 celica continually drive around the school, getting it up over 60 then hit the brakes to go into a slide. They must have done that for an hour. The next day, on my way to work, I saw the same car with tons of front end damage parked on the side of another road. That made me smile :D

When I was stuck on top of one of the mountains here in a snowstorm I watched SO many big 4WD trucks and SUVs lose it going over the road - the reason I got stuck - some moron in a big 4WD lost it and made all of us have to brake, and you know what happens then  The only people who were going over the mountain without any trouble before the salt truck finally made its way up to us were the Subarus and the Volkswagens.

Down here in Texas, we get ice more than snow. Black ice. And 4WD means you can lose traction on all four wheels or that you can get all 4 wheels stuck in the mud. It's not what you drive, it's how you drive. Tuesday morning og last week, my town and another town I go through were solid ice. I have front wheel drive but I also know how to drive. I saw a lady in a Chevy Blazer with 4WD spin out from the freeway. 2 full 360's and she slid backward into the drainage ditch facing traffic. She was safe but shaken up. She still had it in drive and had turned off the key and stepped out. She couldn't get it started until I asked her if it was in park. A lot of newer vehicles will only start in park. Anyway, she got out and got going again. It took me two hours to go 30 miles to work.

When the roads are bad, anyone I work for knows I'm not gonna do it. It's not worth the chances, even if I feel like I can negotiate the way in my vehicle there are too many fools on the road, and I don't do any sort of work that my physical presence makes a life or death difference.

Most of the vehicles that get stuck out here are the monster trucks driven by monster egos and monster ignorance. Its never their fault. They wont accept that they were driving too fast, following too close, should have been in 4 wheel drive or all of the above. Having 4 wheel drive and not using it on ice is nuts. Front wheels pulling is so much better than just rears. It wont stop you faster but it sure helps avoid spin outs.

Nice of you to help em out! I hope he isnt too proud to take a lesson from it.

I drive a SUV and have knuckle heads fly by me all the time in the snow. I had a guy go blazing by me only to end up stuck in a ditch about 2 miles down the road.

I give you lots of props for letting some random guy sleep on your couch for the night. I'd have called AAA for him and let them deal.

I love it when that happens. I had one guy pass me last year and not even 40 feet after passing me, into the ditch he went. I had to stop to avoid hitting him and was in snow too, but I could get out.

I just stayed there long enough to make sure he didn't get hurt, then when he asked if I could pull him out I told him that I don't help people that can't drive.
