Chihuahuas have to be on your lap at all times, lol. They love to snuggle. They can be aggressive with other dogs. Mine is a little aggressive with other people.

My rottie/dobe mix was very sweet, and she just loved digging holes in the yard. She had to have something to do while she was awake. She loved playing with other dogs. She didnt fear other dogs at all, no matter how big they were. She had a "no fear" attitude at a young age.

I love the energy, the Velcro-ness, and the coat of Aussies. Many people think they're hyper, too attatched shedding machines.

So far though, everyone loves just about everything about my rottie mix, except those who don't like rotties. Her bark and super-focused attention on other dogs tends to freak people out.

Ooooh am I gonna open a can of worms here!!

I have Australian Labradoodles. These dogs are considered a breed in their own right and there is a breed profile. (see http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/LAABreedStandard2004.pdf)

With all the other poodle mixes I tend to the same opinion as many here - that they are designer dogs without a breed-specific purpose, but Labradoodles were bred for a reason, with specific aims in mind. Those aims may not have always been successful (ie not shedding) but it was the initial purpose of the cross to create a better breed, and that's why I am accepting of it.

Any old Lab and Poodle mix is NOT a Labradoodle. My babies are fourth generation offspring of Labradoodle parents. I also see a difference there, too.

Ok OFF my soap box now.

What do I love about the breed? They are SO intelligent, they are SO loyal, mine do not shed and need no grooming or clipping.

But mostly, I love their joy. They are the most joyous and joyful dogs I have ever had the pleasure to know and love, and they light up our lives and make them better just by being there.

Others may find their forthright in-your-face friendliness irritating, but we have not come across it. Everyone who meets our darlings loves them instantly! To me, it is a wonderful mix with a wonderful result.

Long live the Labradoodle!!! :D

I love the exuberance of the collies and terriers, which apparently is exactly what drive some people insane. My favorite thing about all my dogs - who tend to be hairy terrier and collie types (a Beardie, a terrier/husky and a Border/Beardie) - is their joyfulness. They're so alive, all bounce and energy and interest and alertness. Yet some strange people prefer dull dogs who they call 'stately' or 'impressive.' You can take your stately Great Danes, your impressive Mastiffs and your majestic German Shorthaired Pointers, and stock an estate with them. Or you can buy some concrete statues, which will have the same effect.

~The great poodle~

I think with my *heart* breed lots of what people dislike about the breed is more of a misconception of it rather then what they are. Also that so many are improperly bred which gives the good ones a bad rap. And from that you get people think that the poodle are a froo froo or yippy dog. Which I can attest they are not.

The one thing that I know is true with them is that they need lots of grooming. Some people are turned off by it but for me it's a joy. I find it a wonderful bonding time between them and I. They also love attention and you’ll often see some as velcro dogs. I’ll love it!

What do I love about my breed (GSD's) that others may dislike?

I love the tests and challenges they can present.

If today I can be considered an accomplished trainer and worthy pack leader it is because of the lessons I was taught by this wonderful breed.

Training-Most people have the misconception that because they are intelligent they are very easy to train. Ever try to get a GSD to obey you that does not think you are a worthy leader? You can almost see them rolling their eyes at you.

Leadership- GSD's teach you how to be alpha of the pack...Being alpha is not about force or dominance, its about having and being worthy of respect. You can't force or demand your GSD to respect you, it won't work. You have to earn their respect by proving yourself a capable and worthy leader.

HEHEHEHEHE- with Shibas it's almost everything!

They're incredibly smart animals, but incredibly stubborn as well. For the average person, they are no one's idea of a picnic to train. With most dogs, you say "sit," and they say "okay." With Shibas, you say "sit" and they say "why?" or "what's in it for me." This temperament has gotten me into many an argument in which I've had to "prove" to people that my dogs aren't dumb, they're manipulative...and currently they're manipulating YOU into thinking that they don't know how to sit, shake, lie down, high five, jump, etc. until you feed them. The look on people's faces when they've realized they've just been one-upped by my dogs is priceless.

The other thing- most Shibas are anti-velcro dogs. They'll be genuinely excited to see you when you get home, and maybe you'll get a tail-wag (if you're worthy), but don't expect hours of cuddling on the couch, or a dog that needs to be with you 24/7. Most HATE sitting on laps, abhor being fondled over, and just generally prefer to do everything on their own terms. This is actually what's getting the breed into a great deal of trouble as their popularity increases. Now that we're seeing Shibas in pet shops, we're seeing people buying them on impulse- for their cute looks. Yeah...the puppies are cute alright, but now you've just opened your home to a breed that has over 6000 years of history in which it was regularly eviscerating wild boar, and hunting bears. You thought he was a lap dog? Hrmmmm....that's too bad, but may I suggest you begin puppy kindergarten?

I love Australian Cattle Dogs because...

*they are highly intelligent (I like dogs that are easily trained)
*excel at agility (a sport I really want to get into)
*they are protective (i love the feeling of being safe!)
*energetic (because i love going for long walks and to parks and beaches to play with my dog)
*dependant on people (ACD's love car rides, and they want to go everywhere with you, which is great because I love taking my dog everywhere with me!!)
*They are medium size (perfect size for travelling, not too big or small)
*And a bonus is their gorgeous looks!!

Why some people my not love them so much...

*if they are a couch potatoe! (ACDs need lots of exercise)
*no time to train (ACDs need mental exercise as much as physical!)
*you are away for long periods of time (ACDs love to be with their owner!)
*first dog owner (ACDs are for novice trainers, they can be stubborn and hard-headed)

Well thats all I can think of for now!:p

Belgian Teruvrens..

What I like - I love Riots personality, the physical look to him as well. He has a fabulous coat, hes a larger dog which I wanted. and I just LOVE his colouring. His black face is to die for. Hes also the smartest dog I've ever dealt with so the Tervs definately have brain to them.

What I dont like - Tervs tend to be VERY standoffish towards strangers.. its taken me 6 months + to convince him they wont kill him or me. He is protective, which I like (to an extent).

Hee hee!! I wouldn't think that you would start a fight!!

I have strong feelings about poodle mixes, too - I mean, the other day I saw a Boxerdoodle on the net. Seriously! I could not believe it and it has seriously gone too far.

But I believe in cross breeding for a purpose, and for a reason, and for the betterment of a breed. I mean, most of the breeds we have today are a result of a cross somewhere down the line.

Labs and Poodles, as stated before, we crossed for a purpose, and that is still being perfected. But they are increasingly becoming considered a pure breed, and I agree with the reasons behind it. Perhaps because I'm Australian and this breed started in Australia, I'm a bit biased, too!! Lol...

But I honestly would be very interested to hear your view - nothing can be learned in this world with a closed mind, and I am honestly interested in what you have to say.

Border Collie: To me they are beautiful, cute, intelligent, active, and the occupy your mind and are a really unique. It'd be a blast to do agility w/ a Border Collie! Other people may think they're tiring, and not have time to spend with them, see that they are destructive, etc.

Rottweiler: I love them so much. They are loyal, handsome, magnificent, devoted, active, fun, and so much more. Some people discriminate against them and say that they are "evil" and "aggressive" and should be euthanized. . .this angers me- I love Rotties! They are just as good of dogs as any other breed. But, I am not blinds to the fact that they need firm training, and have great physical strength. People take advantage of that and make them aggressive. They do have a dominant tendancy, but if they are raised right and know who the "alpha dog" (better be the owner) they should be good dogs.

Labrador Retriever: They are great dogs! I love that they are so sweet and loyal, energetic, smart, and fun! Other dog owners may not like their large size, their constant need for exercise, etc.

Small Portuguese Hound: They are hardy, smart, brave, sweet, and were bred for hunting. They can also be hyper and need a lot of exercise. I love my girl, and she is such a silly one! She resembles this breed like no other, except a tiny bit smaller (like a couple pounds) so she may be a mix, but she resembles the dog in the breed photo like you wouldn't believe!

Well Roxy's a mix but there are very specific traits about her that are breed specific.
The dobe part of her: Her nervousness. She paces at every little sounds regardless of the fact that it's 3Am!
The part I like best about her, well she's a working dog, she may be goofy sometimes but I don't mind. She's generally all about learning and pleasing :)

Hades (Pitt mix)- the thing I don't really like is he's lazy! :O at least when it comes to "guarding". Someone will bang on the door and he'll look up and say "Ah, Roxy's got it! " LOL, it's soo true though. But what I love about him is he's a great companion. Very polite, (asks to get on the couch or cuddle) and he's a great foot warmer.

Their herding behavior. I find it endearing. Especially that little nudge in the back of the legs("Get going!")...lol.

Most people might find it annoying. My hubby does and he owns one...

pit bulls- their drive and tenacity. love it. people forget these dogs are terriers. luce makes it hard for me to forget. she is tenacity +. they can be a lot to handle. drive is great when i can channel it into what i want. not so great when she's trying to figure out how to scale the 6 foot fence after a squirrel and WILL NOT LEAVE IT ALONE.

their ridiculous social butterflyness. i love this, and it's part of why i chose the breed. they (are supposed to) love EVERYBODY. and both of mine do. embarrassingly so, sometimes. they love people i don't WANT them to love. so much for that aggressive mean macho dog that the media so often makes them out to be. it's hard to look tough when you're trying to climb into some stranger's lap so you can stick your tongue in their ear....

Labrador Retrievers - very loving (towards every single person they meet)
but some people don't want a dog they don't know to immediately want to lick them and get petted.

*Who has a Lab that sheds that bad? Mine hardly shed at ALL. Did I get lucky or something?*

German shepherds- I love their drive and intellegence. They are also very loyal (always by my side). They are very protective which IMO is great. People might not like their shedding (I hate it, but manage). Also not all GSD's but mine are standoffish to people which is what I want. They are comfortable but dont like to be petted, and dont expect anyone to pet them.

Dobermans- They are loving and always on the go, in other words, phycotic, lol. They are protective and manipulative (which some people can not handle because they fall for the "puppy eyes" lol. Mine always uses them on me, doesnt work :) )
People might not like...oh heck there's nothing not to like about them. :)

You would love the little guy (Zeek) that just enrolled in puppy class. Absolutely beautiful.....ridiculously cute too. More to the point though, there is nothing like a Staffy face, what other dog has a smile like that?:D
