Well, today I went to the Animal Shelter, and saw four adorable, Chow/Shepard puppies, they were sooo cute! The guy that works there said the mom was mean as can be though. But that doesn't mean four little cuties will be mean, right? xD And then I saw a gorgeous, English Coonhound, (red ticked) skinny, but gorgeous, she looked as if she had a lot of character in her. hehe. But, I saw some amazing dogs, that I wanted, but I need my mom's permission too. What do you guys think?

I think puppies pick up a lot from their mother and if she's "mean as can be" I might steer away from that litter. They might be nice, they might not be and 8 weeks is a long time to imprint behaviors.

The coonhound sounds nice, but doesn't seem to match anything you were looking for in your 20 other threads about picking a dog. And we weren't there to see the other awesome dogs so it's going to be up to you and your family.

I agree ^^

I think you should wait a little bit and go to the shelter again... Especially after the 'Christmas rush'... You'll find something, just be patient :)

ya, I know it didn't. lol. And we steered away from the puppies because they will get too big for our house. Surely they will get adopted though. :) And, then when I called my mom at work, a little bit ago, she said, go to Uncle Bill's website, and I said thats in Indy. And she's like, where am I? And I said, at work. And then I said, we better not get a puppy from a pet store, bad idea. And then I asked her, am I getting a puppy for Christmas? And then my mom said, I don't know.. She doesn't know, and she is confusing me...

I hope so. :( I mean if she found a good breeder, then thats fine, because I know how, and what I am going to do, when we get the puppy. :) (but I doubt I will get one for Christmas, so I wouldn't worry too much) :)

Have you checked out petfinder?

I am sure you have as excited as you seem. There are tons of rescues in every area :)

And that way you & your mom could look together :)

It's great that you're getting a dog from a shelter. I personally think that the best way to get a dog is to go to a shelter at a quiet time, and ask the people working there for advice. Weekends are frequently crazy at shelters, and it's very easy to get swept away by cute puppies or 'impressive' dogs. A decent shelter person won't get swept away because they'll realize that A) unless they're a real no-kill shelter (and they're rare), some dogs are going to be put to sleep there, and B) they'd rather it be a cute large-breed puppy from a nasty mother than a sweet-tempered adult dog. You don't want to half fall in love with a dog before you realize it was a bad match. Guidance from the people who work with the dogs prevents that.

Good luck! Maybe a dog-related item like a leash or a book can be a Christmas stand-in for a dog!

Wow, from the pics I've seen of Max, I would never have guessed that he was a shelter dog!! Firstly because Keeshonds aren't very common (at least around here), I don't think I've ever known anyone with a kees actually...but also because he's just beautiful!! I just assumed from seeing pics of him that he was from a breeder of show keeshonds or something, it's awesome that he was adopted from a shelter, and he's lucky to have got such a loving family! :)

heh, I fell in love with the puppies, but they aren't something I would want, because Chows if not socialzed properly, can be animal aggressive. And here are some dogs I saw at the shelter that were cute. :) I saw a cute little 13" Beagle, but this one is not it. This guy was cute though!

This Treeing Walker Coonhound seemed nice, and was good looking. He is a cutie. And they get a long with children. (niece and nephew)

This big guy, a Rottie, he didn't bark at us or anything, but too big for our house. lol. He will get adopted, he looked like a huge teddy bear. :D

And then this poor girl... She will be put down soon if no one takes her.. :'( I saw her, but we weren't alowed to go in that section at the time..

And then there are more dogs, if you click on the Anderson Animal Shelter thingy. :)
