I use Frontline Plus and have had very good luck with it.

RUN AWAY from anything made by Hartz. I have treated many dying animals at the vet were I worked for years, who became toxic after having that horrible stuff applied. It is very sad and very hard to restore the damage. Hartz even paid the bill for a few of them, without much prompting by the owners. Seemed as though they expected to hav to do some of that.

Thanks everyone!

WOW at first no one responded so I havent checked back but then today I did and was really surprised to see all these responses!

Thanks everyone! I will have to read all of them tonight.

I live in the Southwest Valley of Phoenix and I have a toy poodle I adopted almost three months ago. I'm also new here so I don't know anything about the flea or tick cycle.

Thanks again

OK so now I as confused as I was before. Are these flea products harmful to dogs? If I use frontline on my dog will I be putting him in a health risk situation?

need some help. i tried biospot on my chow last night he is about 6 months 40 pounds. anyways he woke us up in the middle of the night and was acting very strange and so i immediately washed the stuff off of him. He seemed fine this morning, but i really think he was having a reaction to the stuff. Is this brand bad? I will most likely consult the vet, but would frontline or advantix be a better choice?

I would never use biospot again. I did use it a time or two about 6 years ago, until I found out the side effects and reactions it can cause. It has alot of permithyrens (sp) and is not uncommon to have adverse reactions even death. Do a google search.........there are tons of posts and info about people that wished they never used it. It is also deadly to cats. Even cats that are close to dogs that it has been used on. My answer is No, it is not a safer product.
Frontline which I have also researched is a safer product. But with anything you use there is a small chance of adverse reactions. But SO MUCH SAFER THAN biospot.:) Personally I use frontline with confidence. With safety and effectiveness in mind.

I was wondering, on the frontline is has the weight 23-44. my dog weighs 26 pounds, but she might loose a few pounds as I have cut back her food a little. Would I still go for the 23-44? or the one below that?

I havent decided for sure on frontline. I am decided between that and advantix. The range on advantix is 21-55.

The only one that I know that is harmful to dogs is anything made by Hartz.. and frontline isnt made by them so you should be OK with either frontline or advantix :D

ok great thanks for the info. Yeah so django seems like his normal self, i think theres still some biospot still left on him, but should be pretty diluted since i scrubed him pretty well. Im gonna ask my vet before I go an try anything new on him, but i think on some sites they list the different active ingredients from brand to brand. I didn't really know how dangerous these products could potentially be and I read that biospot shouldnt be used on cats but had no idea that if a cat even comes in contact with a dog using biospot that it could be fatal. That is just terrible b/c my mother has a cat at her house.

I haven't seen but one other member that uses Revolution.....That's what I use on Stoli. It seems to work okay....it is a tad bit expensive but it is flea and heartworm prevention in one spot-on. If it wears off before the month is up I will use a couple squirts of Adams water-based flea spray. I haven't been really "thrilled" with the Revolution...it seems to wear off after a couple weeks....but it is easier than say, a Frontline/Sentinal combo

And about Hartz.....I used some of that **** on my old dog Jesse and she broke out with this nasty rash.....One dose of Revolution cost the same as 6 of that hartz crap...I'll save a couple dollars somewhere else in my budget....nothing but the best for my Stoli.

I have not really seen frontline sold in stores, except a small individually owned pet shop. But I buy mine online all the time.

Technically frontline is sold thru vets, but if a company has a vet for purchasing etc. They can get away with it.:)

I have recently been purchasing thru entirelypets.com, cause if you spend $100. shipping is free. (I buy alot).

Frontline

How does a product like frontline work? You put a few drops on the dogs shoulder blades and it works how? It spread through the skin? does it permeate the skin thru-out the dog? I'm still confused!

I use Advantage, and buy on Ebay, if you watch the deals, you can get a great buy. I recently bought 12 doses for $50. Sealed and brand new.

I have seen both brands, frontline and advantage at the Pet Supplies Plus near me.

I'm not sure about frontline, but revolution is put in between the shoulder blades and it is absorbed by the skin and flows into the blood stream. It is a poison for ticks/fleas so if a flea landed on the dog and went to dig under the skin, it would die within a couple of hours from the product.
