Is there any specific breed or breed mix that seems particularly common in your shelter? One that when ever you go, you'll see at least one, but probably mulitple dogs of the same type?

Here it's hounds. Lots of hounds and hound mixes. The sad part is they lie to potential adopters about the nature of hounds, which is probably why so many end up back there :(

Lab mixes and shepherd mixes
same around here.

This is the reason I have never gotten a shelter dog, they almost never have small dogs in the shelters in this area. (Based on my living situation I need to have small dogs.)

pit bulls and herding breeds, mainly Aussies, border collies and Australian cattle dogs. Herding breeds are extremely common/popular in this area.

Africanis. Tons of them! They are sight hounds and tend to end up there because they are bred in townships.

Pitties are IN the shelter here... but because of the way our shelter has interpreted the ban, they're only waiting to be put down :(

Other shelters are still adopting pitties out, I don't know why this one thinks they have to kill them :(

For purebreds, it's pit bulls, by far (though I suppose you could quibble that 'pit bull' isn't exactly a breed, but a type, but you know what I mean). Then beagles and huskies, which are frequently strays. Then Rottweilers, almost always dogs who grew too dangerous for an idiot. For mixes, it's labs, beagles and shepherds.

My county shelter is 98% pits and mixes. 1% is Rottweilers, and rest are everything else under the sun. It's a sin that the breeds most readily available are the same breeds which aren't suited to a wide range of households.

Our shelter is really sad because MOST of the dogs in ours are puppies!!!! I mean 4-10 week old pups!!!!! :(

I really do not go up there any more because they have had MAJOR problems and have LOTS of stray dogs around the site to where you cannot EVEN TAKE THE DOGS OUT FOR A WALK because the strays will bite you or the dog!!!!!!!!!! :(

But from the pics that they have up at a store of all the dogs they have it seems like mostly Golden mixs, Border Collie(yes they looks pure bred!!!), and lab mix pups!!!!!!! :(

It just breaks my heart to see them up there!!!! Just because all the problems the shelter has had, and is having!!!! :(

I volunteer at my local humane society, and there are ALWAYS at LEAST 3 LABS in there. Labs, labs and more labs. I think we have 5 right now. We've had a lot of husky and husky mixes, GSD's and beagles too. Rottweilers and rottie mixes come in frequently as well, although not quite as often as the others.

Pit bulls and more Pit bulls. Also, tons of so-called Shepherd mixes and Lab mixes that may or may not have shepherd or lab in them. My dog was called a lab mix, but I don't really think there is much if any lab in him...

Lab, Shepherd and Hound mixes. Usually they have all three. There are some Pit Bulls but they actually get adopted pretty quickly, so it doesn't seem like there are as many of them there.

Lots of large (85+lbs) shorthaired black dogs and beaglish dogs, which tend to be the last ones adopted anyway. :(

Our shelters seem to be the same as most everywhere too. Lots of pit bulls, lab and shepherd mixes, border collie mixes.

We have a large influx of pit bulls because our animal control picks up many of them unfortunately. Chained to fences days on end, they get loose and wreak some havoc. Very sad. We've had some very bad attacks unfortunately. Ignorant people think it's a great idea to get a pit bull puppy or two, chain them forever with no human love or contact, and they will be their protectors. Then they are surprised when they get attacked or someone else gets attacked when the animal gets a chance to escape. Some have let their dogs loose early in the AM or very late at night, thinking it will be ok. Some people shouldn't be allowed to own animals at all. I do see a movement on banning them here because we just are overflowed with complaints. I wouldn't be surprised and it's too bad we can't ban bad owners instead.
